Albanese’s Wilcannia Covid Concerns are Just Crocodile Tears

1 September 2021

Documents released yesterday by Aboriginal organisation Your Life Your Vote: Take Control show Federal Labor leader and Leader of the Opposition, Anthony Albanese, ignored Wilcannia Aboriginal women when they visited Parliament House in February last year (24 February 2020) and did not even apologise for not meeting them.

The embarrassing documents were released in response to yesterday’s attempts by Mr Albanese to score political points from Wilcannia’s current Covid difficulties and pretend he cares about the fate of Aboriginal communities — communities that are still struggling after 50 years of failed Labor-Left ideology dominating Aboriginal affairs in Australia.

Your Life Your Vote: Take Control was launched in Australia in July, with the aim of stopping the Labor Party, the Greens, and other extreme Left-wing political movements from using Aboriginal votes to pursue ineffective economic policies and weird “woke” social ideas, which are not shared by the vast majority of Aboriginal people.

Your Life Your Vote: Take Control inaugural committee has representatives from most Australian States and Territories. Despite his inaction last year, in a tweet yesterday (31 August 2021), Mr Albanese tried to exploit, for political purposes, the Covid issues now facing Wilcannia:

However, from February last year, this is the record of Mr Albanese’s level of interest in listening to a delegation of Aboriginal women from Wilcannia:

Dear Hon Anthony Albanese MP

I write on behalf of the voiceless Aboriginal women I represent. We want a united Australia. We aim to build confidence and women want to speak with their ‘own voice’ and be heard. We seek to meet with you on 24 February 2020.

We have Australia’s support. A member of the public paid expenses for this trip which will include a gathering of Aboriginal women.

The proposed agenda: We seek your advice: on how ‘on the ground,’ Aboriginal women can be heard; in order to stop the corruption, the fraud, the drugs, the financial, emotional, sexual & physical abuse of us and our children. We want to speak with ‘our voice’; we want to stop the division; we are overlooked and talked down too. We have a lot to give and a lot of love for all Australians.

Would you please kindly make time to meet these women?

Attendees include the following:

  1. Kerry King (Sissy)
  2. Donna Sullivan,
  3. Jenny Jones,
  4. Julie Bugmy,
  5. Julia Goods Jones,
  6. Maria Wilson
  7. Alison Whyman,
  8. Theresa Hartnett,
  9. Belinda King,
  10. Tammy King,
  11. Gillian Dempsey,
  12. Caila Murray,
  13. Josephine Cashman,

Four other people will attending and are from the far south coast of NSW; Michael Mansell and Jason Briggs may send their representatives Tasmania and Victoria. I will forward these names as soon as possible.

Ten women will have travelled more than 20 hours and it’s their first trip to Canberra.

I met you at Garma — do you remember me? I live in your electorate and seek support to find out why Minister Wyatt sacked me. I had no notice. I found out on the television: see attached departmental correspondence confirming I have not breached any contractual terms; it provides a disgraceful account of actions. Minister Wyatt in his media interview inferred I did someone wrong. There is no evidence of this. It has affected my public standing and will rectify it! I did not do anything wrong except speak for the voiceless Aboriginal people I represent, whom no-one listens to. I hope you will kindly help me.

We look forward to meeting you.

Importantly, if you live in the electorate of Grayndler and your issue is urgent, please phone my office in Marrickville on 9564 3588.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.

3. Follow-up phone call to Albanese office:

Josephine Cashman spoke to a Patricia Hancock in Albanese’s office at about 1.30pm on Friday, 21 February 2020, who asked that the request email be resent, which it was. There was no response to this phone call or the resent email.

4. The Shadow Minister for Indigenous Australians, Linda Burney

The ALP’s Shadow Minister for Indigenous Australians, Linda Burney, also could not find time to meet the Wilcannia delegation, which she dismissed with a perfunctory excuse and apology – which was received the day after the delegation was in Canberra:

Dear Josephine,

Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately, due to Ms Burney’s busy Parliamentary commitments tomorrow, we are unable to offer a time for a meeting.

Ms Burney sends her apologies and best wishes.

Ms Cashman said these documents show how much the Labor Party really cares about Indigenous Australians and community-based people, with real, practical issues, which need addressing and which they want to discuss.

“Perhaps if the Labor Party spent less time swanning around with friendly Aboriginal-industry elites, and on divisive distractions like the so-called Uluru Statement and Voice to Parliament, which will only expand the failed Aboriginal-affairs industrial complex, it might help finally do some real good in Aboriginal communities.

“Mr Albanese’s crocodile tears yesterday, for the people of Wilcannia, are a fraud, as these documents prove. As for Linda Burney, she’s the Shadow Minister and couldn’t find 30 minutes to meet Aboriginal people who actually came to her in Canberra at their own expense.

“As for Linda Burney, she’s another failure with little credibility with people on the ground. There are even questions about the legitimacy of her Aboriginal status, which need to be cleared up. The Pascoe Dark Emu scam has highlighted the extent to which fake-Aboriginals are exploiting the Aboriginal-affairs industrial complex for personal advancement.”
