Day 17: Stopping a Terrible Evil
Abortion is a terrible evil. Each one wounds a mother and father, murders an unborn child, and ends a whole family line.
Intention
We need to esteem parenthood in our culture.
Scripture
“If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.” Psalm 130: 3-4
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-6
Reflection
Abortion is a terrible evil. Each one wounds a mother and father, murders an unborn child, and ends a whole family line. And that is not to mention the wider wounds to the losses felt by siblings, grandparents and barren families that would have given anything to have a chance to love and raise that child.
Yet, in our culture, the abortion industry is powerfully seductive. It promises us with shiny human rights posters that we deserve to keep using sex selfishly and without consequence!
It promises to keep our darkest secrets forever away from the light. It promises to put an end to our deepest tragedies and even to heal us from them! Abortion promises us that unplanned parenthood is an unbearable bondage and that abortion can set us free.
Young girls and women who find themselves with unplanned pregnancies are often also facing abandonment, broken hearts, social derision, lost dreams, financial and physical hardship, and too often, serious trauma from rape or coercion.
Where can these weeping, terrified, horrified daughters and granddaughters turn?
To the Lord! To the Church! To Christians! That is our instant, and passionate answer.
But sadly, so many of the stories I hear from young women suffering through PTSD and terrible, inconsolable grief after having had an abortion reveal three terrible realities.
The first is that many young Christian women were actually advised and helped to abort their baby by a Christian parent or leader!
The second is that many young women chose to have an abortion because they assumed that their family and church would reject them as a source of shame to the Christian faith.
The third is a tragically repeated tale from non-Christian women suffering after abortion. They never even considered approaching the Christians in their lives for help prior to the abortion because they assumed Christians hated women who were not ‘pure’ and would only shame them.
Even worse, they never considered reaching out to the Christians in their lives for help with post-abortion grief, because they assumed that they would be damned as murderers and shamed even more.
Brothers and Sisters, if we are to turn the tide against abortion, we must overcome the lies of abortion both inside and outside the Church.
We must all reach out to the young people in our lives, to all the women in our lives, and we must make sure that no girl, no woman ever again turns to abortion because they think that God’s people who are forgiven and beloved sinners, would refuse to forgive and love them!
Prayer
Father God, we repent that we have failed to protect the unborn by finding and ‘comforting those are in affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted’.
Father God, may we be a people known for our humble love for sinners.
Father, please bless us with wisdom and insight. Open our eyes to see girls and women in distress around us. Put your words on our lips and your courage in our hearts, so that we might draw the wounded and fearful into Your loving arms, and save them from the evil lies of abortion.
Father, we ask that you make each one of us ‘salt and light’ in our small corners of the world. Help us to lovingly persuade each member of our family, church, and community that abortion is not the answer but a terrible evil!
Amen.

In a powerful address, Harvard professor Arthur C. Brooks has warned that smartphones have trapped Western civilisation — especially Generation Z — in a "left-brain simulation". This digital shift starves humanity of the right-brain complex experiences essential for purpose, love, and faith. He articulated three actionable steps to escape this technology trap, rebuild real human connection, and reclaim a truly meaningful life.

It is exclusively a woman right as to what decisions she makes with regards to her body, It has nothing to do with the sanctimonious morals of a corrupt Christian church. I remind you that the Christian church is a man-made construct and has nothing to do with god. Why? God does not exist.
“It is exclusively a woman right as to what decisions she makes with regards to her body”. Not quite that simple Jon, especially once another individual is involved – the baby, totally dependant on its mother. It is also not just a Christian issue – there are plenty of non Christians who see the ethical reality beyond the pro abortion rhetoric.
