Biden Hoists BLM Flags While America Burns
The Biden Administration, already flying LGBT Pride flags above its embassies worldwide (except in the Middle East), now wants to add the Black Lives Matter flag as well. Diplomatic missions are no place for ideological posturing.
Black Lives Matter has received another blank cheque endorsement from the Biden administration.
Washington is pressuring US diplomats to hoist the Black Lives Matter Inc. flag over American embassies on June 19 (Juneteenth), citing a renewed focus on fighting “systemic racism”.
This is despite the NY Post reporting a noticeable drop in support for the anti-nuclear family, anti-police Critical Race Theory movement.
According to the NY Post, at the height of its popularity during the 2020 Antifa-fuelled George Floyd riots, the political organisation, spuriously calling itself a charity, bathed in a 50% approval rating.
Public support for BLM is now riding at 31%, with the NYP putting much of this down to sentiment with the slogan, ‘not support for the extremist agenda.’
Stiff Competition
Clashing with “PRIDE month”, team Joebama’s “nudge” to leading American diplomats abroad could potentially upset LGBTQ+ activists, should LGBTQ+ flags already flying above consulates and embassies (outside the Middle East) be removed to make room for Biden’s Black Lives Matter partisan posturing.
Post-Trump, flying flags in support of partisan political movements has been left up to the discretion of consulates and embassy heads.
Last year, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken allowed ensigns of the LGBTQ+ political religion to be flown alongside or under the Stars and Stripes.
Contradicting the 1939 Hatch Act, Blinken returned to an Obama-era policy, rolling back Trump administration restraints on American officials parading political ideologies from federal buildings aboard.
The Hatch Act protects federal employees from political coercion and prevents federal employees from using government resources to push a partisan political agenda.
Undiplomatic
Highlighting the problem and practical reasons for opposing Blinken’s reinstatement of the Obama-era policy, Simon Hankinson, writing for The Heritage Foundation, convincingly argued,
‘The flagpole outside a U.S. embassy or facility overseas should fly only one flag: the Stars and Stripes, supported by a base or unit pennant where appropriate. Flying a flag symbolizing domestic political positions is undiplomatic virtue-signaling at best, and counter-productive provocation at worst.’
He added,
‘We do not fly a feminist flag (there is one) outside of our embassies in the Middle East, nor the Taiwanese or Tibetan flags outside Embassy in Beijing, because doing so would inform no one, accomplish nothing, and needlessly irritate already difficult relationships. Flags are to diplomacy what skywriting is to marriage proposals: unsubtle and hard to walk back.’
Hankison concluded,
‘Granting ambassadors the leeway to fly flags according to their individual ideological bent or local sentiments does not present a united policy front abroad.’
This would seem to advocate the best common-sense alternative to the one-eyed appeasement of minority militants, such as the Marxist Black Lives Matter Inc. and fascist LGBTQ+ Pride brigade.
Inappropriate
Legislation opposing the flag-free-for-all was floated last year by Nicole Malliotakis, who is described as ‘the only Republican member representing New York City in Congress.’
A 2021 press release explained: ‘the Stars and Stripes Act of 2021 seeks to restrict the display of certain flags or banners at diplomatic and consular posts around the world.’
Malliotakis stated,
“It is inappropriate for President Biden and Secretary Blinken to authorize and encourage the display of inherently political flags that are in no way affiliated with the U.S. Government over American embassies overseas.”
The congresswoman then firmly argued,
“The only flag that should characterize the United States of America at our embassies overseas is Old Glory. Political flags have no place in exemplifying our nation abroad.”
At the time of writing this, the twelve-month-old bill appears to still be stuck in a holding pattern.
Wrongheaded
The Biden administration’s obsession with identity politics shows just how skewed their priorities are.
While Biden fiddles to the racist tune of melanin before merit, and salutes his own virtue over LGBTQ+ issues, the flames from lockdown-loaded high inflation, and manufactured racial division, continue to burn down a free America.
Biden’s ‘bonfire of the vanities’ signals that the worst could be yet to come.
The macro message from the Joebama administration is clear: Build Back Better was never about preserving America as the last refuge of liberty.
Build Back Better was about burning it all to the ground, in a power-hungry Leftist quest to birth a woke supremacist, utopian dystopia.
The raising of protected political class ensigns on national buildings isn’t just a sign of national surrender, it’s indicative of feckless national leaders who no longer believe in what that nation was birthed to withstand.
“We know only too well,” said Ronald Reagan, “that war comes not when the forces of freedom are strong, but when they are weak. It is then that tyrants are tempted.”
What is needed is an awakening of the majority to how easily manipulated they are in the hands of an elitist minority.
As for equality, privileging political groups, and simultaneously devaluing the symbol representing responsible freedom, undermines the value of the words “created equal”.
Even at America’s Jim Crow worst, very few flags have united, or invited multi-ethnic groups together to serve under it like that of the Star-Spangled Banner.
