Kurt Mahlburg
Kurt Mahlburg is a husband to Angie, a father, a freelance writer, and a familiar Australian voice on culture and the Christian faith. He is the Senior Editor and a regular columnist at The Daily Declaration. More of his writings can be found at Mercator, Intellectual Takeout, The Spectator Australia, The American Spectator and Caldron Pool.
A published author, Kurt’s breakout title Cross and Culture: Can Jesus Save the West? explores the social and spiritual challenges facing Western nations and the hope Jesus offers in our crisis. Along with Warwick Marsh, Kurt has co-authored several other books, including Great Southland Revival, Power of Prayer, and Jesus: The Centre of It All.
Kurt is passionate about speaking the truths of Jesus into the public square in a way that makes sense to a secular culture and that gives Christians courage to do the same. He has previously studied architecture, worked as a primary school teacher, and served as a missionary and a young adults pastor. Among Kurt’s other interests are philosophy, history, surf, the outdoors, and travel. He hosts his own blog at Cross and Culture.

Recently I wrote an article called "Easter: God’s Vaccine for Humanity". Using vaccines as an analogy for the Gospel, I mentioned a recent news report about Bill Gates investing his personal wealth in the search for a coronavirus vaccine. I clearly hadn’t done my homework [...]

Intention God gives us His heart of compassion so we can extend His heart of compassion to others. Scripture “You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity.” —Jonah 4:2b Read Jonah 4:1-11. [...]

We must not get complacent about restrictions imposed during the crisis. ___ This is a free country. It’s a phrase we’ve all used, even from schoolyard days—often to stand up to a bully trying to exert their control over us. “This is a free country” [...]

It’s a strange time to be celebrating Easter. We would normally be enjoying the long weekend near water or sun, spending time with our friends and extended families, and gathering in our local churches. Instead, for the most part, we will be bunkered down inside [...]

What if this present moment—a time of untold global chaos—was actually a wide open door for you into prosperity? As you read the news, that may seem unlikely. But in recent weeks, there are many around the world who have been seeking out something stronger [...]

A deadly plague has stolen the lives of some 17,500 lives in Australia so far this year. That’s almost 200 people every day, or one every eight minutes. What plague could possibly be so deadly? It is the plague of abortion. We learn some important [...]

Today was going to be my wedding day. Angie and I had everything planned. A ceremony by the beach; a reception at the winery across the road where I grew up; thirty guests joining us from overseas. But then the coronavirus came. I first read [...]

We are living in a different world to the one we were a week ago. In December 2019, a pneumonia outbreak was detected in the city of Wuhan, China. It was soon traced to a new strain of coronavirus—but not before travellers with coughs and [...]

Is it just me, or is the cultural chasm between “left” and “right” widening by the month? On social media especially, accusations of ignorance and ill motive are thrown about more casually than ever. It’s even common now to see people gloat when their rivals [...]

What price would you pay to follow Jesus? Five hundred years ago, the people of Europe whispered of a mysterious ‘Garden of Eden’ across the seas. It was a distant paradise better known as the Spice Islands, the home of cloves and nutmeg. In London [...]

It’s becoming more obvious with each passing year, and just about everyone in the West will agree: to be a Christian means to walk out of step with mainstream culture. It’s such a fixed feature of modern life that Christians have adapted a variety of [...]

It almost sounds fictional, doesn’t it? Like a sick plot from a dystopian novel. But here we are in 2020, and governments across the western hemisphere are sending their citizens’—our—tax dollars to abort brown babies in Africa, Asia and Latin America. So much for letting [...]
