Dan Andrews’ Radical Gender Policies Completely Out of Step with Public Sentiment, Survey Suggests
A recent survey within key Victorian electorates suggests overwhelming opposition to radical gender theory being taught in schools. Binary spokeswoman Kirralie Smith called the results “bad news for Dan Andrews”. Nevertheless, awareness of Andrews’ radical policies remains low.
Victorians are just months out from an election that incumbent premier Dan Andrews looks set to win strongly, and gender issues are certainly not in the legacy media spotlight.
Binary Australia, an organisation dedicated to fighting “against the de-gendering of society”, has been out and about speaking to Victorians about key Andrews’ government policies. The four topics covered in Binary’s Victorian Campaign Survey, June 2022 were 1) voting intentions, 2) gender ideology in preschool, 3) gender transitioning without parental consent, and 4) biological males in female sports.
Although the survey is not a weighted opinion poll (and is drawn from a comparatively low sample of 2700 people across four electorates), it does show some interesting indications of a change in voting intention and general attitudes towards important transgender issues.
Strong Opposition to Andrews’ Government Gender Policies
The results show that support for gender ideology was extremely low among respondents. According to Binary, almost 90 per cent opposed the government’s policy to enable children to transition without parental consent.
Interestingly, however, only one in three respondents were even aware of the policy.
The survey summary reports that opposition to Andrews’ government’s gender agenda is high, while awareness of it is low:
“Responses indicate that, though higher than expected, awareness on the issues of gender ideology in preschools and transitioning without parental consent is low. Despite this, support for the woke ideology is even lower. Respondents adamantly oppose schools and preschools indoctrinating children and undermining parental rights.
Awareness of males competing in women’s sport was higher than the other issues, but voters were overwhelming in their opposition. It is clear that those we spoke to want to keep women’s sport safe, fair and strictly for women.”
While, again, the survey pool was limited, the results seem to indicate that everyday Victorians are strongly opposed to extreme gender ideology.
Nevertheless, pro-family activist organisations like Binary have their work cut out for them in the effort to inform voters in the lead-up to the state election.
Swing Against Government Among Those Surveyed
Another finding of the survey was a general trend away from the government in voter intention questions.
For example, in Dan Andrews’ seat of Mulgrave, the ALP’s support had declined two per cent since 2018, while the Liberal Party had enjoyed a nine-point boost in voter support.
While one other electorate saw Labor retain a minor (one per cent) lead over the Liberal Party, the other two electorates surveyed saw the Liberal Party gain modest (two per cent) to significant (seven per cent) leads over the ALP. In each case, the ALP had lost favour with voters. In the case of Werribee, the swing was as high as nine percentage points.
Considering the small sample size surveyed, the possibility of the statistics misrepresenting the reality is quite high. Nonetheless, if they are accurate, voter intentions in these four electorates seem to buck the trend of the wider state, which is indicating strong support for the Andrews government.
The seats surveyed were Premier Daniel Andrews’ seat of Mulgrave, Mary-Anne Thomas’s seat of Macedon, Tim Pallas’ seat of Werribee, and Paul Edbrooke’s seat of Frankston.
Is there a better option?
One question that many Victorian Christians will undoubtedly be asking is, “Is there a better option?”
While many of the policies pursued by the Andrews’ government have been actively anti-Christian, the Guy opposition certainly hasn’t taken a strong stand for family, faith, freedom or life.
In fact, it was the Liberal Party that expelled faithful pro-life advocate Bernie Finn from its party.
Thankfully, there are pro-family candidates and parties contesting the Victorian election. Bernie Finn has re-joined the Democratic Labor Party, who, alongside the newly-created Family First Party, will stand for life, freedom, family and faith in the upcoming Victorian election.
As announced in the Daily Declaration in May, former ACL boss Lyle Shelton has joined Family First, further strengthening the Christian voice in the lead-up to the November election.
Please continue to be in prayer for the Victorian election. Pray that godly leaders will be elected and that Christians would be mobilised in prayer and action to stand up for God’s good things.
