The Father Wants a Bride for His Son – Day 28

Focus

Global Day of Prayer for Israel: 28 May 2023

Intention

To prepare the Church to be a ready bride for His Son.

Scripture

“But it was the will of the Lord to crush Him, causing Him to suffer. Because He gives His life as a gift on the altar for sin, He will see His children. Days will be added to His life, and the will of the Lord will do well in His hand.

He will see what the suffering of His soul brings and will be pleased. By what He knows, the One Who is right and good, My Servant, will carry the punishment of many and He will carry their sins.”

– Isaiah 53:10–11 (NLV)

Reflection

Welcome dedicated family (mishpacha – מאפחה) to the devotional for the Global Day of Prayer for Israel, 28 May 2023.

The Father wants a bride for His Son. He has called each one of us into His family (mishpacha). The Father is a family man.

Today let me share with you a small portion of the greatest love story of the universe. Yeshua and His Bride.

The Old Testament is full of stories that talk about Israel as the Bride of Yahweh, the marriage covenant, the unfaithfulness, and the calling back of the bride to Himself.

In April we passed through the season of Passover where His beloved chosen people were released from the chains of bondage in Egypt. In doing so He made a way for His people to progress to a land of milk and honey.

In the month of May, we celebrate Shavuot – the Feast of Weeks. In the modern Hebrew calendar, Shavuot dates 25–27 May 2023. Shavuot is fifty days after the first sabbath after Passover. Please see my other articles here if you wish to read further.

Shavuot is a harvest festival, celebrating the wheat harvest. The firstfruits (Bikkurim) of the wheat harvest were brought into the Temple. Shtei Halechem (two loaves of bread with yeast) were offered. Including yeast in the bread was atypical for sacrifices.

“… out of your dwellings ye bring in bread of a wave-offering, two [loaves], of two tenth deals of flour they are, [with] yeast they are baken, first-[fruits] to Jehovah.” (Lev 23:17, YLT)

The good news or should I say the great news is that Yeshua is the firstfruits. He was the first one to be raised to new life by the Spirit of God:

“The Holy Spirit raised Jesus from the dead.” (Rom 8:11)

Yeshua is the firstfruits offering of the resurrection, and we believers are a firstfruits offering because of what He did for us.

When the priest offered the two loaves of bread with yeast in them, He was offering to Yahweh the Jewish people and the Gentile people – all redeemed by the precious blood of Yeshua.

All born-again children of Yahweh comprise the Bride. We will be presented to Yeshua at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Here He will drink again with us – the cup of wine of which He mentioned (Matt 26:29). Joy returns as we are united in this fashion with Him forever.

Prayer

Yeshua, You are the reason we live. Our hearts are forever grateful for Father’s magnanimous plan to bring us into His family to be wed to You, Yeshua, and enjoy You forever.

Thank You that You gave your all as a supreme sacrifice. You had us in mind. You had me in mind. Thank You, Father, that I was already in your heart before I was born. Very soon we will be with you, Father and Yeshua, together with Ruach Ha Kodesh, the Holy Spirit. Your heavenly realm will be our home and our hearts forever worshipping You. Amen.

Such beautiful words Nel. What joy to meditate on being Yeshua’s bride, and it will be forever. Thank you.
