Trump’s Humble Response to a Stranger’s Bold Prayer Goes Viral

An Iowa man’s spontaneous prayer over Donald Trump during a campaign stop has gone viral, sparking conversation about faith, leadership, and the biblical call to pray for those in authority.

An impromptu prayer for Donald Trump has gone viral.

The as-yet-unnamed man asked to pray for the President during a stop at the Machine Shed restaurant in Urbandale, Iowa.

Trump’s visit coincided with the start of campaigning for the mid-term elections, and a speech about the US economy.

Greeted with applause and cheers, Trump worked his way around the room, only to be stopped by a brave man who asked if “he could pray for Trump real quick.”

Undeterred by the media presence and surrounded by the Secret Service, Trump immediately said, “Absolutely! Come on.”

Bowing his head, the United States President then joined the man in prayer.

A Bold Moment in a Busy Restaurant

Although garbled and partly obscured by agents pushing the media back, most of the prayer contained calls for protection and acknowledgements of gratitude.

“Lord, God, we give You thanks for this president,” the Iowan man interceded.

“Thank You for Your hand of protection on him. We pray for continued wisdom. We pray for discernment.”

“We pray for health. We pray for more peace, Lord, and just pray for protection against the world, the devils, the flesh, and all principalities, Lord.”

“In Your name we pray, Jesus, Amen.”

Unpacking the Iowan’s impromptu intercession, CBN contributor and apologist Raj Nair said it was risky.

Not everyone would accept prayer these days. People allowing you to pray over them, as Trump did, isn’t a foregone conclusion anymore.

That’s part of the reason why this went viral.

Trump accepting the prayer resonated with his humanity.

People want to connect with this moment.

Public Prayer for Leaders Still Matters

“It’s found in 1 Timothy 2,” Nair added.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions  that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

This is what this guy in the restaurant was doing, Nair continued.

“Regardless of your political persuasion, what you think of Trump, your own echo chamber, or distorted lens thanks to algorithms, he is in charge of the country.

“I think it’s important for us to realise that this man does represent the United States of America.”

The office of the President involves important decision-making.

It’s “incumbent upon us to pray for Trump,” explained Nair.

Whether you think Trump is Godly or not is irrelevant — “our job is to bring the Holy Spirit into our spheres.”

That is what this guy did.

He “literally bumped spheres with the president of the United States.”

The invitation, acceptance and prayer set an example of “what we should do regardless of political persuasion,” Nair remarked.

“Pray over this man. Invite the presence of God to encourage him.”

This was another person taking the opportunity to “point President Trump towards the Creator of the heavens and the earth.”

Faith, Politics, and Pointing Hearts Toward God

For Nair, the prayer was about sowing and reaping.

“At the end of the day, this small little seed may sprout somewhere in Trump’s life down the road.”

If we’re “not praying for those in authority, we’re missing part of the mark.”

Being holy (separate) doesn’t mean separating from political involvement.

“I think what this guy did was commendable and biblical,” Nair said.

This man boldly praying for Donald Trump was an example of how Christians should proactively engage in politics.

Quoting Proverbs 21:1, and “breaking down the viral moment” with Nair, CBN’s Billy Hallowell said,

“The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He will.”

This man was showing the world how to submit the political to the power of prayer and its purpose-filled petitioning.

By doing so, he was helping point the heart of the most powerful man in the world towards the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

We need to pray for our leaders more than ever and remind them that there is a God to Whom they have a Duty. Despite his faults Trump is a Believer , unlike the hypocrites we saw attending church yesterday at the commencement of Parlt. who allow Hate Marches screaming the destruction of Australia and death to Jews. Why doesn’t the Australian govt. put a stop to them and charge these traitors who are funded by The Islamic Republic of Iran whose IRGC is a declared Terrorist Organisation in civilised countries ?

Hi. It’s clearer than day Antonia that our present govt is antisemitic. No further proof is needed really and they are simply acting out their beliefs. Our PM himself previously took part in those type of anti Jew marches. Its common knowledge now.
His words and his hate speach laws are very hypocritical. No sooner than he opens his mouth he is ragging out on those in opposition. He has no grace, there is no graciousness in his words. His words about others are not constructive, they are spiteful and destructive. They serve no purpose whatsoever other than being snide and rude. If you watch him in parliment he yells mockery at others thinking he is so funny and clever. Though most politicians do similar. Sadly most are not in it for good, but for a big fat paycheck. The good get trampled on by them leaving us all with a pack of two opposing wolf packs set upon devouring each other. The root cause being their godlessness. Figs don’t come from briar bushes.
We pray for God to bring us Godly leaders and to wake the godless ones up unto salvation.
Trump is not really Christian though he sympathises with them. Personally I believe for votes and support. I once heard him talking to someone and the subject of Christianity was brought up. His reply was pretty telling that he wasn’t one.

To me, that prayer was scripture based and Holy spirit inspired.

By agreeing to it in humility, President Trump puts himself in a powerful position – “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” – James 4:6.
