Sky Adds New James Macpherson Show as News24 Era Begins
James Macpherson steps into prime time with The Macpherson Angle as Sky News transitions to News24, signalling a bold new era of opinion, digital expansion, and fresh programming.
Sky News host and Daily Declaration regular James Macpherson is hosting a new show.
The Macpherson Angle debuted earlier this month with James saying the 8 pm Sunday slot will platform his “unique take on the world.
The series will include some of Sky’s better-known contributors, such as Joe Hilderbrand.
“It’s bound to be fiery and fun,” James wrote in a brief announcement on Substack.
More Shows, More Voices
According to Sky, the additional content is part of the media organisation expanding its opinion-based shows.
The Macpherson Angle, Sky said, will bring “added depth to the issues that dominate public debate.”
James will also facilitate what Sky described as a weekly quiz program aimed at tackling the “big stories with humour and banter.”
Titled Quizzical, the Macpherson program will launch sometime later in the year.
These changes are in addition to James’s work on The Late Debate, which will continue to air at 10 pm Monday through Thursday.
Macpherson isn’t the only winner in the reshuffle.
Caleb Bond gained The Bond Report, and James Bolt (son of Andrew Bolt) landed on the schedule.
Danica De Giorgio gains Opinionated, and the digital-only series Danica Goes Global.
Sky stalwarts Rita Panahi, Paul Murray, Rowan Dean, Peta Credlin, Chris Kenny, Sharri Markson, James Morrow, and Steve Price all return for the 2026 viewing season.
Sky Becomes News24
News of Sky mobilising more from its talent pool coincides with CEO Paul Whittaker’s February 20 announcement about the media organisation’s rebranding.
Sky News will become News24.
The fresh start comes with a fresh “state-of-the-art” building, Whittaker said.
These changes are “a statement of intent for the future of trusted, fearless storytelling.”
Explaining the rebrand, he reassured supporters, saying that News24 (soon to be the former Sky News) would “embrace Sky’s 30-year heritage and editorial credentials.”
“By adopting the ‘News’ script, News24 creates a visible connection to a century of journalistic excellence established by Sir Keith and Rupert Murdoch,” Whittaker said.
“This commitment to the profound importance of journalism continues under the leadership of News Corp’s Global Chair Lachlan Murdoch,” who purchased Sky back in 2016.
News24 takes Sky to the next level.
As part of the transition into News24, he added that Sky will “relaunch its digital products, complete with a new app and website, for enhanced journalistic capabilities.”
These new resources, Whitaker said, will empower “better journalism, broader reach, and a stronger commitment to the stories that matter to Australians.”
A New Chapter — With Some Absences
Not all of Sky News’ contributors will be rejoining the new face of 24/7 news media in Australia.
There is no sign that Macpherson’s former Late Debate colleague Liz Storer will be returning.
The edgy and talented commentator was quietly moved on in June 2025 with no official reason given.
Panellist contributors (and social media favourites) Evelyn Rae and Dr Stephen Chavura also appear to have been excluded from the 2026 lineup.
James Macpherson’s Sky solo drive with The Macpherson Angle is a step up for the avid writer and former pastor.
Without a doubt, he is one of Australia’s own, if not the only, sharp-witted, lovable Christ-centred living tributes to “brevity is the soul of wit.”
Proving Sky’s commitment to digital content, The Macpherson Angle can be watched online every Sunday or listened to on Omny FM in the form of a podcast.

Identificational repentance is a very powerful corporate, priestly (1 Peter 2:9) prayer weapon, in which believers stand in the gap for their family, church, city, or nation by naming the sins that have shaped a people, confessing them before God, and turning from those patterns in heartfelt humility.

Congratulations James MacPherson. Your contributions to the Daily Declaration are, without exception, excellent.
Congratulations to James Bolt too. Will Andrew Bolt be returning to Sky News? Finally so saddened to learn that Dr Stephen Chavura is no longer appearing on Sky News.
James says it “AS it IS” and we are so blessed to have such a great man, a Christian man who does not water down his beliefs and faith for TV votes.
GOOD NEWS for Australia.
Go for it James!
Go for it James !
Hi,
For the last ?? ever since COVID really.. I have distanced myself from mainstream media +++.. And, occasionally flicked over to Sky news….
This became part of my routine – my hit for normalcy… the way things really are. And I feel like I should be supporting this new host however… meh.
I am pretty unimpressed to say the least, with Sky’s treatment of our now ex- Liberal leader Sussan Ley .
Taking a big step back from Sky too now! I think
