The Kendrick Brothers’ 2021 documentary Show Me The Father is well worth watching. Directed by Rick Altizer, it beautifully weaves together a series of stories highlighting the importance of fatherhood.

I remember seeing the trailer in late 2021 and thinking ‘I should watch that’, but it wasn’t until I became aware of Altizer’s latest project, He Calls Me Daughter, that I got around to it. Show Me The Father’s description reads:

Everyone has a unique father story. Whether positive or painful, it’s always personal and can deeply affect the core of our identity and direction of our lives.

The Kendrick Brothers’ SHOW ME THE FATHER is the first documentary film from the creators of WAR ROOM, OVERCOMER, FIREPROOF, and COURAGEOUS. Featuring a variety of amazing true stories, this captivating movie takes audiences of all ages on an inspiring and emotional cinematic journey.

Providing a fresh perspective on the roles of fathers in today’s society, SHOW ME THE FATHER invites you to think differently about how you view your earthly father, and how you personally relate to Father God.

The film certainly is inspiring. Stephen and Jill Kendrick’s story of adopting their precious daughter from a Chinese orphanage is amazing. The incredible plot twist for American football coaches Deland McCullough and Sherman Smith needs to be seen to be believed. In fact, the film is worth watching just for the beautiful moment of truth between them 64 minutes into the documentary.

The film’s a little clunky at times, but overall, it’s a moving reminder of the impact, for better or worse, that fathers have. Ultimately, it’s a hopeful film, as it illustrates the incredible love that God, our perfect Father in Heaven, has for us.

While Show Me The Father is geared towards a male audience, He Calls Me Daughter is focused on females. The description reads:

HE CALLS ME DAUGHTER is for women who have felt unseen, unsupported, or unsure of their worth. Through intimate, first-person stories, viewers follow women as they begin to name the pain they’ve carried for years: father wound.

Audiences are invited to reflect on their own story as they walk alongside these women on a journey toward healing. HE CALLS ME DAUGHTER is an invitation to experience the love of a perfect Father who does not withdraw—One who offers peace, belonging, and restoration.

The film is being released this week in theatres across the United States (March 17-18, 2026) through Fathom Events. While it seems there are no plans currently for an international release, hopefully it’s available soon on streaming platforms. Both Show Me The Father and He Calls Me Daughter call attention to the need for fathers. The powerful words found in Malachi 4:6 describing the need for ‘the hearts of the fathers to turn to the children, and the hearts of children to their fathers’ are highlighted in Show Me The Father. These very words inspired the founding of Dads4Kids Fatherhood Foundation 24 years ago.

Yes, an abusive or absent father can inflict deep wounds on his children, but that does not mean dads should be sidelined. Instead, fathers should be encouraged, trained and inspired to be the very best they can be for their children.
