No Pride in Turkey. No Protest Either.
Earlier this month a cruise ship carrying 2000 LGBT+ passengers was blocked from entering Turkey. But the Queers for Palestine campaign that never misses a chance to condemn Israel had curiously zero to say about it.
We’ve all heard of Queers for Palestine.
LGBTQ activists who campaign relentlessly against Israel – despite the fact Israel is the only country in the Middle East where homosexuals enjoy legal protections and can live openly.
Try being homosexual in Islamist run Gaza and see how far that gets you.
But I bring up Queers for Palestine because they’ve been remarkably quiet about something that would seem, at least on paper, to fall squarely within their area of expertise.
Earlier this month a cruise ship carrying 2000 homosexual, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered passengers was blocked from entering Turkey.
Turkey Bars LGBT Cruise from Country
Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady set sail from Athens on Sunday for what was billed as, and I quote, “an epic all-gay voyage”.
Everything was going swimmingly — until the ship tried to dock in Turkey.
That’s when local authorities said no.
Their explanation?
Turkish authorities refused entry to the LGBT+ ship because they said it was populated by, and I quote…
“ … groups known for behaviours that do not align with the structure of our society and our moral values.”
And just to avoid any ambiguity, they added…
“There is absolutely no possibility of the group in question visiting our province for an event of this nature.”
So, Turkey turns away 2000 homosexuals on the basis of their sexuality.
Normally, that’s the sort of story that would trigger hashtags, candlelight vigils and an emergency panel discussion the ABC.
Instead? Silence.
Or what about this?
The Indonesian Government has just classified “the spread of LGBTQ culture” as a national threat.
A government report says…
“LGBTQ culture should be read alongside other non-military threats listed in the regulation, including terrorism, radicalism, info wars, online gambling, drug abuse, cyberattacks and natural disasters.”
Deafening Silence
Imagine discovering your existence has been categorised somewhere between ransomware and a volcanic eruption.
Now, I would have imagined that might prompt a few demonstrations.
After all, if homosexual activists can march through Sydney and Melbourne to protest a conflict thousands of kilometres away — one in which LGBTQ rights are hardly the cause being advanced – you might expect at least some public outrage when governments in our own region openly target gay communities.
But again… nothing.
Not so much as even a single glitter covered fist raised in defiance.
The rainbow flags stay folded, the placards remain in the garage, and the revolution takes the day off.
It’s almost as though LGBTQ activists are less interested in defending homosexual people than they are in opposing Israel.
