Prepared with Answers to Impact Eternity: Day 12
Intention
To encourage confident witnessing, knowing there are credible answers to the questions and challenges we face when sharing the gospel in this secular age.
Scripture
“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
– 1 Peter 3:15
Reflection
A street evangelist once shared that the most common objection he hears when trying to engage with people about Jesus is: “Oh, I believe in evolution”.
Recent surveys have shown that the number one barrier to young people being interested in Christianity is science. But it’s not the testable, observable science of the laboratory that causes doubt. It’s the notion that we’re merely cosmic accidents and there is, therefore, probably no God.
Our faith is based on the truth of God’s Word. It’s a defensible, rational worldview.
A respectful, gentle answer can break down intellectual barriers. Such answers can remove the obstacles preventing the hearer from being born again.
It’s like giving the hearer permission – and freedom – to believe.
Dan Brown is the best-selling author of The Da Vinci Code. As a young man, he read that there was an explosion known as the big bang billions of years ago. He realised that conflicted with what the Bible said in Genesis 1.
He asked his minister which was true. The disappointing reply? “Nice boys don’t ask that question”!
That was the moment when, in Dan Brown’s own words, “I just gravitated away from religion.”
If only that minister had been prepared to give an answer to the young Dan Brown. What a difference it could have made.
Are there young ‘Dan Browns’ in your life? Children or grandchildren, perhaps? Good questions deserve good, biblically sound answers. And we, as believers, are called to be ready to give them.
That’s why the Apostle Peter urges us to “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15).
Of course, no one has all the answers, but we can know that there are answers and where to find them. I commend the work of Creation Ministries International (CMI) and their website www.creation.com. CMI exists to support the effective proclamation of the gospel by providing credible answers that affirm the reliability of the Bible, especially its Genesis history.
Let’s be ready. Let’s be the voice of truth and grace. You never know the difference it could make in someone’s eternity.
May we always be prepared!

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
May we have total confidence in the truth of Your Word which is sharper than any two-edged sword and more than able to defeat the lies of the enemy. We pray that as we share the truth with others and we encounter questions or even hostile objections, that You will bring to mind the answer that person needs to hear.
Give us the words, Lord, to set people free from the intellectual strongholds that prevent them from receiving the truth. May our answers always be given in love, with gentleness and respect.
May our ears be ever attentive to the Holy Spirit as He gives us the words to say as we share the gospel with those He has placed on our hearts.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen.
Author Bio
Mark is a scientist, speaker and writer with Creation Ministries International.
In his earlier years, he was a closet Christian as he tried to combine evolution with his faith, but it didn’t make sense.
When he was confronted with the historical truth of the creation account in Genesis, he realised that those opening chapters were actually true history. Then God’s plan of redemption finally made sense.
Today, he speaks passionately about the scientific credibility and the gospel relevance of the Genesis account of creation.

Creation Ministries International has a wonderful source of tools on the site Dr Harwood has given, for those engaging our culture for Christ. They have excellent articles in their magazines too- beautifully presented and produced. I given quite a few away over time.
Not everyone amongst older folk have been so indoctrinated by evolutionary theory, including those from other countries. Nevertheless, some religions do have “long ages” so listening to where people are at, and their perceived needs, is also important in evangelising. I am finding people frequently want prayer and this is another “way” to connect with the Gospel also.
Go month is the month “to get stuck into evangelising” “working while it is yet day for the night comes when no man can work”! Blessings all.
Great article, prayer, and song. Well written Dr Mark.
Thanks Dr Mark – good thoughts, well written, and topped off with a fabulous song.
