COVID19 Call to Prayer – March 23: Strength and Protection
Prayers: Today’s lead prayer is from the Book of Common Prayer – written at a time when plague was far more common than it is for many of us today:
“O God, who knows us to be set in the midst of so many and great dangers,
that by reason of the fragility of our nature we cannot always stand upright;
Grant to us such strength and protection, as may support us in all dangers,
and carry us through all temptations; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
Petition: Please also join with us in praying for:
- Our Political leaders – for wisdom in their deliberations and decision-making.
- Our Economic leaders – that they make decisions that consider people as their priority at this time.
- Our Church leaders – that they may have wisdom, unity and courage as they call people to faith and repentance.
- We pray for those who are seeking to develop a vaccine.
Repentance: Let us confess our sin and pride, and humble ourselves before the Lord.
Thanksgiving: We praise God that the death rate for Covid-19 appears to be significantly lower than other coronaviruses’. We praise Him also for those who serve with skill and faithfulness in caring for the sick.

Hearing and receiving the word generate action. Together, by the grace of Christ, they open the way for his presence to break through — and for his word to touch others and produce lasting fruit. Only the received word becomes fruitful.

The responsibility for nurturing new believers does not rest with one or two designated church leaders or in any particular church structure. It rests with all of us.
