Raving for Jesus: AndyG Shining God’s Light in Church and the Club

8 August 2025

This past year, Christian DJ and producer Andrew Griffiths, aka AndyG, has broken through as one of Australia’s hottest new electronic artists. Disillusioned with hearing song after song about secular culture, he eventually realised he could create music to glorify God.

In partnership with Australian Christian Records, The Daily Declaration is piloting a monthly Christian music column featuring the official OZ 5 Top Tunes chart, artist stories, new releases, upcoming music events, and local Christian music news. If you have something to contribute, send it to news@ozchristianrecords.com.au.

Before we get into this month’s story, check out the OZ Top Tunes chart and the latest Christian music releases.

Raving for Jesus: AndyG Shining God’s Light in Church and the Club

Arms are raised high and the age-old hymn “It Is Well with My Soul” is convicting hearts in a church south of Bondi. While this mental image sounds like it could have come from 100 years ago, the lights, speaker system and DJ pushing a driving beat have pushed worship into the 21st century.

God can be praised in many different ways, but it is trickier than most to do it using electronic music. With the rave scene born from illegal warehouse parties, pirate radio and questionable ideals, even now, nightclubs and festivals have a reputation for drugs, booze and lustful activity.

But it’s hard to ignore that electronic music has gone mainstream. Once limited only to the biggest studios, or whatever rich kid could track down hard-to-find synthesizers, today’s Top 30 sound is dominated by electronic music; from the current k-pop wave, to chart-topping stars like Justin Bieber and Dua Lipa, to even the world’s largest ‘rock band’ in Coldplay; all crossing over to collaborate with the world’s leading electronic producers and DJ’s.

Australia is well-known globally for its rich EDM (Electronic Dance Music) heritage and for decades has been a must-visit for international DJs. Notable artists like Rufus Du Sol, Flume, and Pendulum have each redefined their genre with lasting worldwide influence.

This past year has seen Christian DJ and producer Andrew Griffiths, aka AndyG, breaking through as one of Australia’s hottest new electronic artists. At 23 years old, he has chalked up official support from The Chainsmokers, Hardwell, and Armin van Buuren. He has even had shows across Australia and Japan, amassing a total of four million Spotify streams and counting.

Prior to his Sydney show with Rave Jesus, Australian Christian Records caught up with AndyG to learn more.

Hi Andy! Tell us a little about your background and musical style.

Well, I’m a Christian and I’ve loved music my whole life. I’ve learnt guitar, piano and played drums for the church band, but I remember getting into electronic music when I was 15 years old after hearing Martin Garrix. I was thinking, how on earth did you do this?

Since then, I’ve been learning a lot and now produce all genres, from bigroom techno to trance1 and progressive house.

It’s unique how you are able to connect your faith with your love of electronic music, especially as there can be a reputation for so much ungodliness in the scene. How have you been able to do that?

Despite being a Christian my whole life, it never crossed my mind that I could make electronic music for God. I remember watching DJ sets at Ultra Miami, and there was song after song about secular culture. I realised that if I want to make electronic music like that, I don’t want to be following those themes.

In the following months, I really wrestled with the idea of how I could make dance music to glorify God. I didn’t want it to end up cringe.

It was a reposted story from Brandon Lake that really gave me direction when he shared a remix of his song “Gratitude” from Rave Jesus, funnily enough. From there, I started making remixes of worship songs, which led to making new songs, but in dance music.

Producing is one thing that you can do by yourself, but what about DJ’ing, where you are performing in front of everyone – and as a Christian?

Yes, DJ’ing is a whole new bracket, and especially as a Christian. I properly started playing live around 3–4 years ago and want to stand firm in my belief. I know at some venues, people may be drinking and doing drugs, but on my end, I have to honour our body as a temple, and take a stand for Him. I never include songs in my set with swearing or worldly themes, and I remember when playing in Japan recently, the crowd went hype to my Christian tracks there.

This past year and a half, I’ve found a whole new fire for God and have decided to go all in, consciously thinking about how to glorify God wherever I can. I think God has honoured this commitment, as my career has really taken off since I made that decision, and He has blessed me in so many different ways. I can’t explain it any other way.

We see a noticeable emergence of a global Christian electronic music scene with artists like Rave Jesus, JesusLovesElectro and the whole God’s Nation crew, but how about Australia?

Unfortunately, there are not many Christian DJs or producers here in Australia. Some Planetboom and Youth Alive songs come close to the sound, but there’s not much of a scene here. It’s sad, but I’m also encouraged, as it is such an open door for God to move, especially as I see Christianity keeps on rising and rising, with even more people on fire for God.

I really hope that one day, Christian dance music will be at the top, with more DJs and producers open about their faith, rather than worrying about losing followers or industry credibility or whatever.

2025 Tour posters

AndyG opened for US DJ/Producer RaveJesus in Sydney last month.

So, what’s coming up next?

I was recently shortlisted to join Martin Garrix’s JBL Academy.

That same Martin Garrix who inspired you to get into electronic music?

Haha, yes! If I get selected, I will be in Amsterdam for a four-day artists’ development camp, which would be so cool.

But looking further into the future, I am pushing to make a better live show and get involved with more Christian raves like this one coming up with Rave Jesus, who has been such a blessing to me and many others.

My motto is to ‘Make Heaven Known’, and I wish even more people were on fire for God. One way to do this could be to start a tour and play at all the different youth groups around the area.

I know God called me to make dance music. I want to reach people who are lost and confused, helping them realise there is hope in Jesus. Even better, if some artists read this and think, ‘I can do it, too.’

  1. This article refers to trance music – the genre, not the state of mind or spiritual experience that is also called a ‘trance’. Biblically, the word ‘trance’ is used to describe a God-given experience (e.g. in the case of Peter in Acts 10:10 and Paul in Acts 22:17). The word has also been used to describe demonic experiences.
