Zoomers Won’t Fight For an Australia They’ve Been Taught to Hate, Survey Reveals

A new survey reveals Gen Z’s reluctance to defend Australia, sparking fierce debate over whether woke education, economic hardship, or something else is to blame.

Generation Z is less likely to step up should the country need defending.

The not-so-surprising stats were revealed in a Courier-Mail exclusive published 24 hours before Anzac Day.

26 per cent of those aged between 14-29 years would “refuse to make any personal sacrifices to protect Australia.”

75 per cent said they were convinced we are on the verge of World War III (for the Olan Omars in the crowd, that’s 3, not 333).

Zoomers also appear clueless about how America’s own sacrifices in the Coral Sea and New Guinea kept, and are still keeping, Australia free from invasion and external tyranny.

According to The Courier-Mail, Zoomers “trashed Australia’s longstanding alliance with the United States, with almost two-thirds saying we should not follow America into a war.”

1 in 10 consider it a good idea to cut defence spending, which, The Courier-Mail said, contrasts with the majority view of Baby Boomers.

Boomers want more spending on defence.

Close to half are big supporters of compulsory service for young people, either military or civil.

Again, not all that surprising.

Gen Z Won’t Fight — But Who’s Really to Blame?

What was surprising was the response. No one blamed the kids. They saved their criticism for Cultural Marxism and its preachers.

As implied by reader responses, the survey results spoke to the consequences of a woke, weak and welfare-dependent “modern” Australia, hijacked by virtue signalling, grievance politics and perpetual White guilt.

Add here the rewriting of history.

This was explained with impressive detail by Leonie Robinson in a 27 April Daily Declaration piece discussing slavery.

The Courier-Mail said readers slammed Australia’s Marxian Woke education system, blamed nation-hating ideology and indoctrination, not lazy youth.

For instance, one Courier-Mail subscriber wrote,

“The left-wing media have a lot to answer for. The anti-American and anti-Trump propaganda has been relentless.”

Another stated,

“The education system also has questions to be asked. Leftist ideology that teaches the black armband view of our history. If it weren’t for our forebears… there would be no indigenous folks.”

This was added to by a reader who said, “The education system needs to stop telling students that Australia is an evil colonial ruler.”

They need to stop teaching kids “to hate this country and that we should be sorry for all the liberty and freedoms that we have.”

Someone else chimed in, saying,

“The education system is broken! Schools teach kids to hate Australia.”

Adding to the criticisms, The Courier-Mail was told,

“Just as fish don’t recognise water, Gen Zs don’t recognise freedom. America won’t lead us into a war. War will visit us unannounced, and we will be on our knees begging the USA to save us.”

Shocked, one reader noted,

“Only 20% of Gen Z would fight if Australia were under threat, not fighting in a foreign country but right here.”

Not every comment was as damning about the loss of civics in the curriculum at the hands of critical theory.

President of the RSL, Peter Tinley, said he thinks the next generation has a quiet patriotism.

“I remember Anzac Day marches in the 1970s when you could shoot a cannon down St George’s Terrace,” he said. “Now they’re ten deep.”

A Nation Worth Defending?

Others shared their disgust at the current Canberra lineup, saying,

“I would have always fought for our country. Now I wouldn’t bother. We have a pathetic government and too high a population who don’t care about the country or traditions.”

“We urgently need,” someone added, “to get rid of this useless Government.”

They don’t blame kids for refusing to defend the bloated bureaucracy, no assimilation of mass immigration, over-taxation, over-regulation, hyperinflation and high government dependency.

The implications here are a firm refusal to defend Australia, given the current shape the country is in.

What the Courier-Mail survey clearly communicates is that very few would fight for Australia under Labor.

No one wants to join Albanese’s socialists and fight alongside the CCP in a war against the United States.

Former Queensland LNP Premier and ex-army engineer Campbell Newman wasn’t sold on the stats.

Like RSL boss Peter Tinley, Newman thinks there’s more to the story.

He wasn’t surprised.

Talking with Chris Price on Sky News, the former premier said young Australians have little to fight for.

“I think the issue of home ownership looms large. If you can’t get a stake in the nation, you might have a rather jaundiced view at the moment about that particular country.”

Newman then balanced this with a nod to 1933.

64 per cent of the Oxford Union in the United Kingdom resolved “under no circumstances fight for king and country.”

“At the time,” Newman added, “it was a national disgrace, and it was hotly contested and debated.”

“Six years later, those same probably mainly young men were there flying Spitfires, Hurricanes in the Battle of Britain.”

“They stood up and served. So, I think young Australians would.”

Referencing the survey, Newman noted that more of the Boomer generation would refuse to fight for Australia than Zoomers.

“45% of boomers in that survey said they didn’t want to fight, but only 33% of Gen Z said they didn’t want to fight.”

Optimistic, Newman said, at least Zoomers, when compared to Boomers, are more inclined to fight for their country.

In March 2022, the Institute for Public Affairs released a similar survey outcome. The IPA’s conclusion was much the same.

Commenting on the results, IPA’s Deputy Executive, Daniel Wild, declared that,

“The negative, self-hate view of Australian history and culture being forced onto students at schools and universities means that now barely one-third of young Australians believe Australia is even worth fighting for.

“Young Australians are too ashamed to fight.”

The criticisms and grim assessments largely agree with education expert Kevin Donnelly’s diagnosis published in the Daily Telegraph last year.

“The [Australian] curriculum, instead of indoctrinating students with a black armband of history […] should teach nation building and national pride.”

Schools, he said, should be “promoting and funding cadet units, teaching teamwork, discipline, survival skills and leadership.”

“Instead of Welcome to Country ceremonies, it’s also vital to raise the Australian flag and recite the oath of allegiance.”

Rather than jamming climate change alarmism down kids’ throats, “it’s vital that children are taught the truth.”

“While there’s no doubt,” Donnelly warned, the nation must invest in armaments, it’s also true that without men and women willing to defend Australia, defence spending is pointless.

I have 1st -hand evidence of Primary School children being continuously subjected to Leftist propaganda. We now have an adult generation who will not fight if someone invades Australia. I have never forgiven John Howard for taking off people like me, our guns. Yes, I am an old woman, but ,if I still had my Ruger Semi-Automatic I would not hesitate to shoot invaders. It’s called Patriotism and love of our neighbour, for who wants to see Australian babies slaughtered or both sexes raped, etc. It is our Duty to defend our country and the people of Australia. I have been aware of the brave men who fought in the Pacific in WW2- to stop the Japanese invasion of Australia —my colleagues like the Pollard brothers and John Barrett. I watched that old movie ” Midway ” which briefly mentions Australia. As a teenager I lived with my parents in a new suburb where streets commemorated the Battle of the Coral Sea, eg Halsey Rd ( named after an American admiral ), Coral Sea Road, etc. As a adult I joined the Australian /American Assoc. and took part in the annual commemoration ceremonies of The Battle of The Coral Sea. Should trouble eventuate, without the help of the USA, Australia is lost , so , stop criticising President Trump. My concern is that the submarines promised under AUKUS ( a great idea ) may never eventuate ? Our down- payment has been used to prop up the failed economy of the UK which is broke ! In the Boer War, WW1 and WW2 the UK used Australians as cannon-fodder to fight in Europe , the Middle East and North Africa. At Gallipoli and Singapore the UK evacuated their own soldiers , leaving Australians to die by beheadings , and like another of my colleagues, nearly starve to death in Changi Prison , and Australia to be invaded . I suggest all schoolchildren should be informed of this history and view the photos of the living skeleton Australians prisoners of the Japanese in Changi prison . Years ago I paid my respects to the WW2 Australians buried in Singapore . Do young Australians remember the Brisbane Line ,north of which Australia would not attempt to stop Japanese invasion? Time to break the bond with a country (UK ) which has no honour and is an Islamic State, and, go with Trump who is our only hope. The Boer War at the end of the 19th century was a British disgrace using Australian soldiers to rob diamonds and gold from the Boers whose wives and children were deliberately starved (in some cases , to death ) in British concentration camps–see the photos ! In the 18th century Russia, led by General Potemkin and The Austrian Empire were allies to conquer the Ottoman Empire and its capital , Constantinople( now Istanbul ) ,but, were thwarted by the jealousy of Britain, France and Prussia who supplied guns and ammunitions and fought on the side of the Muslims against Christian Russia and Austria. Had Potemkin not died young and Britain , France and Prussia not fought with the Muslim Ottoman Empire, there would now not be the problems of the Middle East and North Africa ,and all the oil would now be in Christian hands !
