Australia has abandoned its Christian foundations. Only revival and courageous Christian witness can reverse the nation’s moral decline.

Where is our nation going? We are divided. We face challenges that some of us who are older never imagined would come to us.

Some may say Australia is at the crossroads. I do not think so. I think we have passed the crossroads and are on a downward trend that, unless arrested, the country that will emerge will be nothing like what we once were.

A Nation Losing Its Foundations

We have a malevolent government that is addicted to spending and raising taxes. It does this shamelessly. Money is given to countries and groups within Australia that reject our traditional values. My summation of our current government is caustic; it is seriously incompetent.

My opinion of our current prime minister is the sum of what many are saying, and it is that he is incompetent and dangerous. His grubby references to Kylie Minogue and the Japanese Prime Minister are unacceptable from the Prime Minister of our country.

Why have we come to this? Why have we a cavalier disregard for traditional values? We have abandoned God. It is a rare politician indeed who mentions any recognition of God and our Christian past. I see the extreme left suffering a severe case of Christophobia. However, some of our political class are more interested in condemning us for Islamophobia.

I wonder if any of these clueless politicians have ever read the Qur’an. To say Islam is a religion of peace is not endorsed by the Qur’an. Fundamentalist Islam is aggressive, intolerant, supremacist, and misogynistic. This does not mean all Muslims embrace such ideas. There certainly are law-abiding peaceful Muslims. However, the ideology is dangerous. It is supported by our current government and growing in influence. This does not augur well for our future.

The transgender and LGBTQI ideology is aggressive and intolerant of any questioning and has gained significant influence in our society. This means that people who support the idea that there are two genders, male and female, and that sexuality is not fluid are met with hostility. Therefore, a generation is being brainwashed with an ideology that is destructive to human relationships and social cohesion.

Christianity on the Margins

Christianity is now marginalised in academia, politics, and the media. Christmas celebrates the “jolly old fat man” with very little recognition that it is a celebration of the birth of the Saviour of the world. Christian belief with its historic expression and respect for the teaching of the Bible is now to be relegated within the four walls of a church building.

As well, too many progressive Christians have abandoned the historical basis for our faith and the authority of the Bible. Australia is a secular nation that is losing a moral foundation for living and in the end, it will be everyone doing what is right in their own eyes and the consequences will be horrific.

The murder of babies by abortion is condoned and defended by hard hearts. The shedding of innocent blood in our country is totally ignored.

The sex industry thrives in this country. It is a multimillion-dollar industry and this means that healthy human relationships are subject to one-sided momentary sensual pleasure. Also, human trafficking is involved.

Where is the authentic Christian Church in this morally declining society? It seems to me, and some may disagree, that many are asleep. They are not aware of the ultimate consequences of what is happening in our nation, to put it simply it’s the destruction of a nation.

Moribund Politics

I cannot believe that there are Christians who would actually vote for Labor, a party that I see has abandoned itself to an extreme left ideology, and needs never to form government in our country. The Liberals are divided and one wonders whether they could govern effectively. Can they truly capture the imagination of conservative people again and govern?

The Greens are an anti-Christian party promoting a vile agenda and no authentic thinking Christian could vote for a Greens candidate.

One Nation is growing significantly in support and not every Christian will vote for it. It seems to me that what appeals now to many people in our country is that One Nation is putting forward ideas and policies that seem to reflect what we once were as a nation.

However, One Nation must be careful to explain clearly its policies. For example, its opposition to mass migration is understandable because it is not sustainable. However, we must not demonise legitimate migrants. We must not in our opposition to multiculturalism make it appear to promote racism.

Australia has many fine migrants from India and China. For example, I have just spent a few days in hospital. The Asian doctors and nurses were absolutely wonderful. They are a blessing to Australia. One Nation must project a fairly clear message as to what troubles it about mass migration. We need to support migrants who support social cohesion and respect our traditional values.

Revival, Prayer and National Renewal

Therefore, where is Australia heading?

Many opinions may be given in reply to my question. My view is that apart from a true authentic Christian revival, we are only going to get worse, and so the church of Jesus Christ needs to be praying for righteous leaders to emerge.

Christians need to have more significant influence in education, in academia, in politics, and in the media. Christians need to speak up and stand for what we believe.

One of the challenges that Islam brings to Christianity is that Muslim preachers are not afraid to state what they believe. It seems to me that Christian voices are too often silent. I conclude with these words from (2 Chronicles 7:14):

… if My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

There is the challenge. Will we respond to it?
