Demographic trends, immigration, security concerns and Christian responses are examined in this analysis of Islam’s growing presence in the West and its potential long-term implications.
Europe today seems to be slowly but surely turning into a Muslim continent. Both legal and illegal immigration are contributing to this. If present trends continue, things will be all rather bleak there. Precise numbers are always difficult to come by, and it depends on how we define ‘Europe’: numbers go up when we add the Slavic states and Russia.
But those seeking to keep track of the figures are saying something like this: Right now, there are some 50 million Muslims living in Europe. In 1980, there were perhaps 20 million living there.
The Changing Demographics of Europe and the West
Some of the nations worth looking at are these:
- France: 6 million Muslims
- Germany: 5 million Muslims
- United Kingdom: 4 million Muslims
- Russia: 15 to 20 million Muslims
Mosque numbers can also be appealed to here. In 1980 there were around 100 mosques in Europe. Today, there are some 20,000. If we include Russia and Turkey, that number goes up to around 115,000 mosques. These are the estimated mosque numbers in some key European countries:
- France: 2,800+
- Germany: 2,600+
- United Kingdom: 1,800+
- Italy: 1,000+
- Netherlands: 570+
- Sweden: 560+
- Belgium: 400+
- Austria: 350+
- Spain: 300+
Of course, it is not just Europe where we find this happening. Consider one set of figures making the rounds on social media. Assuming these are more or less accurate numbers, it is a real worry indeed:
The most Muslim cities in the US (% Muslim population – est.)
- Hamtramck, MI 60.0%
- Dearborn, MI 55.0%
- Patterson, NJ 32.0%
- Dearborn Heights, MI 30.0%
- Passaic, NJ 22.0%
- Melvindale, MI 20.0%
- Prospect Park, NJ 19.0%
- Teaneck, NJ 12.5%
- Irving, TX 11.0%
- Minneapolis, MN 10.0%
Should we be concerned?
If you know little or nothing about Islam, its stated goals and aims, its 1400-year expansionist and bloodthirsty history, and the number of deadly Islamist terror attacks since 9/11 (49,579 so far), then you might think there is no problem here. ‘Welcome them all in. The more the merrier!’
But then you need to get your head out of the sand and start learning – and fast. There are so many good books, articles and websites available. For example, the figure of nearly 50,000 attacks that I just mentioned comes from this very important website.
For what it is worth, I happen to have 707 articles on Islam and 360 articles on terrorism on my site. And see these pieces for reading lists of some 200 books on these topics: (1) and (2)
France as a Warning Sign
Consider the situation in France. Yama Bar recently wrote on the death of France due to the Islamic invasion. The piece begins:
There was a time when Paris was the most romantic city in the world. You could stop on the banks of the Seine at dusk, buy a baguette and a bottle of wine from the corner shop, sit on the stone steps above the water, and feel, without irony, that life was generous, and civilisation was real. The light on the river. The smell of bread. The sound of French — that particular music of a language that assumes beauty is worth the effort. That Paris is gone. This is the story of how it fell. This is the story of the fall of France.
She discusses an April 2024 classified document that Emmanuel Macron read and then locked away. In May 2025, it became public, and it tells us about the dire condition of France:
It was a detailed, deliberate, patient, funded, and coordinated plan across borders. A plan to take over France, not by force, but from the inside. Neighbourhood by neighbourhood, school by school, sports club by sports club. The name of the document, “Frères Musulmans et Islamisme Politique en France,” – The Muslim Brotherhood and Political Islam in France.
After presenting a great amount of detail that deserves a careful reading, she finishes:
You are still asleep as the report sits on Macron’s desk. You are still marching for Palestine as the mosques multiply and the neighbourhoods empty of French faces. You are debating Islamophobia as Jewish students are barred from university buildings and synagogues are vandalised at a rate not seen since the Second World War. You are still protecting the feelings of the institutions that finance it all.
There is a truth every civilisation has learned too late: when Jews are attacked, the society is already sick. Antisemitism is not a Jewish problem. It is a diagnostic. It is the first symptom of a civilisation that has lost the ability to defend itself, to name its enemies, and to draw and hold a line. France, you recorded 1,570 antisemitic incidents in 2024. You are not defending your Jews, your women, or your children. Rape cases have more than doubled over the past decade, and your response has been to commission reports, issue communiqués, and send diplomatic letters to the governments funding the men who commit them.
You cannot march for Palestine on Saturday and pretend you do not know what is happening in Saint-Denis on Monday. You cannot call yourself a feminist and look away from the women in niqab who have been pressured into silence in neighbourhoods your own police are afraid to enter. You cannot call yourself a defender of the Republic while funding mosques that answer to Ankara and Doha and not to Paris…
This is who you are, France. The report is still on the table, but it does not matter. You cannot save a country that has decided to destroy itself — slowly, voluntarily, and with a clear conscience. You did not fall, France. You chose to kneel. Goodbye, France.
Christian Mission in an Age of Mass Migration
Yet some Christians might reply to all this as follows: ‘But isn’t it a good thing that so many Muslims are coming to the West? That makes it so much easier for us to evangelise them.’ I have written about this before. See this piece for example.
As I said there:
It is easy enough to respond to that objection. First, I suspect that a good 95 per cent of Western Christians are not sharing the Gospel with anyone, let alone Muslims. Second, a whole lotta Muslims arriving in the West ARE engaged in dawa, or Muslim mission, to reach and convert Westerners. Sadly, they tend to take their faith a lot more seriously than most Christians. So it is mainly all one-way traffic here when it comes to spreading religion in the West.
It is one thing to encourage believers to pray for and reach out to their Muslim neighbours if they have come here legally, and have made it clear that they accept – and do not reject – the host country’s values, culture and beliefs. But far too many Muslims coming to the West certainly do NOT want what the West offers, and are looking to destroy the West and turn it into another Islamist hellhole. Christians are under no biblical obligation to put up with that.
And as I stated in a comment under that piece:
With things like the internet now with us, many (most?) Muslims in Islamic countries can get some access to the truths of Christianity online. Indeed, many of these Muslims are coming to Christ simply via dreams and visions. Sure, we Christians are still called to take the Gospel worldwide, but the need to have the West welcome with open arms millions of Muslims so that we might ‘win them for Christ’ is now no longer as necessary.
Five Quotes on Islam, Immigration and Western Civilisation
Five closing quotes:
- “Wherever Muslims have had complete sway, wherever the Christians have been unable to resist them by the sword, Christianity has ultimately disappeared.” — Teddy Roosevelt
- “When someone says they want to kill you, believe them.” — Elie Wiesel
- “… that life has to be fought for, and it has to be cherished, and that what Israel has been up against is not just a people of death but a cult of death, a cult which wishes to annihilate an entire race, and which after dealing with that race has made very clear what it wants to do with Christians, everyone in Britain, everyone in America, and everyone else next. They don’t hide it at all, and we’re merely stupid in not believing them.” — Douglas Murray
- “Believing Muslims will not colonise and violently subjugate your country like they did to 56 other non-Muslim countries is like believing an abuser won’t beat you again after beating you 56 times.” — Miriam Aviv
- “We can either stop Islamic immigration now or our children will pay the price – just like the working-class girls in Great Britain did.” — Congressman Brandon Gill
