Up to 500 children are now involved in a legal action to overturn the Queensland Government’s ban on kids accessing puberty blocker drugs for gender dysphoria.
The Government has applied the ban to all new patients because they’re concerned that it might not be in the best interests of boys to ply them with drugs in a bid to turn them into girls.
Or vice versa.
What a nasty government they have in Queensland.
Refusing to fund the provision of drugs to kids before being absolutely sure it’s safe. Bigots!
(Insert eye roll here.)
Claims of Discrimination
These kids — or should I say, their parents — not only want the ban overturned.
They also want an apology.
And they want $50,000 each in compensation for the discrimination they claim to have suffered…
They claim discrimination because the government will allow boys to be prescribed testosterone if they’re suffering a deficiency of testosterone. But they won’t allow girls to be prescribed testosterone.
Now, I wonder why that might be?
Sexism!
Just because little girls are female, is that any reason to deny them a male hormone?
These parents also claim their children are being discriminated against because of their age…
How come adults can access drugs to transform their bodies, but not kids?
How dare the Queensland Government imply an 8-year-old is less able to make informed medical decisions than a 25-year-old.
Next they’ll be suggesting children shouldn’t be allowed to sign mortgages or operate forklifts.
Gender Drugs Still Available
I should point out… these parents who claim their children have been born into the wrong bodies and therefore need to be transitioned… are completely free to access the drugs through the private health system.
But no. Apparently, they believe it’s their human right to have the drugs provided by the public system… you know, the one that you and I pay for.
And, presumably, the same public system they can sue 30 years from now, when these families belatedly realise Shakespeare was wrong when he said clothes maketh the man — or cross sex hormones. It’s neither. It is chromosomes.
You can’t change them.
And if you think that’s unfair, you’ll need to take it up with your science teacher.
Queensland LGBTI Legal Service president Ren Shike says the matter needs to go to court because…
“When a whole group of people can be cut off from healthcare by a stroke of a pen, it shakes confidence in the system for everyone. This case demands accountability for these decisions.”
Except, like SO much of this entire debate, the exact opposite is true.
The government cutting children off — with the stroke of a pen — from puberty blockers and cross sex hormones doesn’t shake faith in the health system. It bolsters faith.
It’s because we DO demand accountability from our public health system that they’re right to exercise extreme caution when approving drugs for children.
The legal action is absolute nonsense.
The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal should be condemned for even entertaining it.
