No Monuments Lit Up for Israel
When people like the Ukrainians are attacked, landmarks around the world light up with their national colours in solidarity. But it seems that nobody cares about Israeli lives lost.
It’s amazing to see so many nations light up landmarks in solidarity with Israel after 13 people were killed and dozens injured in four terror attacks recently.
Oh wait. No one has done that.
The Sydney Opera House has not been bathed in the blue and white of the Israeli flag.
Neither has the Eiffel Tower.
Neither has the London Eye.
Neither has New York’s Empire State Building.
In fact, most people are likely unaware of the terror unleashed in Israel since March 22. It’s only the Jews, after all, and they get killed all the time, right?
Double Standards
A terror attack anywhere else would elicit worldwide sympathy and shows of “solidarity”.
Certainly, Israel is quick to show solidarity with other nations when they come under attack.
Here are just some of the times Tel Aviv has lit up in solidarity with cities around the world that faced terror attacks. But who will light up in solidarity with Tel Aviv?
Death and Destruction
On March 22 three Israelis were stabbed to death and a fourth rammed and killed with a vehicle. The assailant had been released from prison after supporting ISIS. You can guess his first name.
On March 28 terrorists shot dead two Israeli policemen (both aged just 19) at a bus stop. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.
On March 30 five people were shot dead by an attacker dressed in black firing an M16 assault rifle on residential streets. The Palestinian militant group Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, praised the attack, saying: “We express our blessing to the Tel Aviv operation.”
On April 7 a Palestinian, opening fire at a bar in Tel Aviv, killed two Israelis and injured a dozen more. He was later found hiding in a place of worship. I’ll let you take a wild, crazy guess where.
To be fair, the American Secretary of State Antony Blinkin tweeted his condemnation of the violence.
But that just emphasises my point. When any other nation suffers a terror attack, they get the full solidarity treatment, right around the world. Israel gets a tweet, not from the US President, but from his underling.
4th-century BC Jewish leader Ezra wrote, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem”. Now, as then, there is no peace, and neither do there seem many who outside of Jerusalem who care.
