To Thine Own Self Be True
Marrying someone else is so passé. Kshama Bindu is making the news for her decision to take vows to herself. After all, who else would love and accept her so completely?
Indian woman Kshama Bindu has taken Pride Month to its logical conclusion.
Yes, she has rejected heterosexuality, which is love for someone who complements her.
But she has also rejected homosexuality, which is love for someone exactly the same as her.
Bindu has cut straight to the chase and decided that if you want to do ‘Pride’, then you might as well pursue sologamy — a lifelong commitment to yourself.
The sociology student will marry herself in a lavish ceremony on June 11.
She told the BBC:
“Many people tell me I’m a great catch, I tell them, ‘I caught myself’.”
Lucky her.
I thought about marrying myself but my parents disapproved and wisely talked me out of it, convincing me I was no good for me.
Puzzling Arrangement
Anyway, Bindu goes on…
“Self-marriage is a commitment to being there for yourself, to choosing the livelihood and lifestyle that will help you grow and blossom into the most alive, beautiful, and deeply happy person you can be.
Wait. I have questions.
If she sleeps with someone, does that mean she is cheating on herself?
And what if she wants a divorce? How does that work?
Let’s imagine she gets divorced and wants to remarry. How will she find a partner who is willing to live with her and her ex?
Narcissism gets sooo complicated!
Self-Love
Bindu, who describes sologamy as ‘a deep act of self-acceptance’, explained …
“It’s my decision to marry who I want — whether it’s a man or a woman or myself.”
She left out people who want to marry animals and people who want to marry inanimate objects. Bigot.
“And by marrying myself, I want to normalise sologamy. I want to tell people that you come into the world alone and you leave it alone. So who can love you more than yourself?”
Let’s assume the question is rhetorical. In Bindu’s case, it is rather obvious that no one can love Bindu more than Bindu. And she’s invited family and friends to bear witness to the fact. How proud they all must be.
“My mom said, ‘Oh, you always think of something new.’
Imagine the shock when she and her family discover narcissism is not ‘new’.
“But my parents, who are very open-minded, took it in their stride. They said, ‘As long as it makes you happy, we’re fine with it.’”
Hmmm. I’m starting to think it’s true that no one loves Bindu more than Bindu. And more’s the pity.
I suppose it’s time to add another English alphabet/numeral/symbol/whatever to the ever-increasing rainbow umbrella term. Or we could just shorten the whole thing to ME.

The Church is wimpy, and it's destroying the nation. That's the blunt assessment of Rev. Chris Wickland, a UK clergyman who refuses to soften the gospel for perceived cultural acceptance. And he has a point. From the rise of "woke" institutional Christianity to the abdication of prophetic witness, the modern Church has traded its backbone for a desperate attempt to attain a disappearing seat at the table.
