What Happened to Australia? John Anderson with Patrick Bet David
Former Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson discusses how Australia descended into the abyss of tyranny during its pandemic panic, and reflects on how it has come to be in its current state.
I offer the attached conversation by way of drawing your attention to John Anderson and the people he interviews, who like him have been active in the interests of our nation in the public square for many years. His YouTube channel, “Conversations with John Anderson”, is very much worthy of your attention.
John Anderson believes that “you cannot get good public policy out of a bad public debate”, and in this interview titled “What Happened to Australia?“, he shows us how it’s done and why he is considered by many to be one of our great diplomats.
Watch his interview with Patrick Bet-David in the USA, one of the world’s top podcasters.
He is well-versed in putting aside socioeconomic, religious and political differences in order to have a conversation about urgent contemporary issues. While I have only known of him for the past year or so, I have been the grateful recipient of exposure to his worldview, and I do so as a prodigal not long home, who also seeks unity that is not based on expediency or lies.
Responsibility
Some context now: during these times while the war between the generations — i.e. us and our children — is raging, it would be a mistake to imagine that it is only they who want to be spoonfed a diet of instant gratification. We too have developed an appetite for this temporary absence of frustration which is, of course, a consequence of instant gratification.
After all, it was we baby boomers who along with our schools, churches and friends — in reaction to being born during or within a decade or two of World War II, taught and raised our children into the adults they are today.
Empathetic Evangelisation
Many long-term Christians who lived and thrived in a “church world” may not have moved through life outside of their own communities. If they did enter into the world of “the other”, it was for the sole purpose of saving the soul — which is vital, but when human contact is agenda-driven, relationship is by necessity limited.
John Anderson is not ashamed of the Gospel; neither does he impose it inappropriately — perhaps because he understands that doing so can at times undermine the long-term goal, so he chooses a wise kind of empathy.
The conversation is long, but if you decide to join them at the table, remember to watch as well as listen, and don’t forget to browse the comments, because there you will find another layer of understanding.

Australia still has a blasphemy law architecture that goes by a new name — namely, our vilification and anti-discrimination framework. These laws have striking parallels to Australia’s old blasphemy laws, with the exception that they serve a new god and are more readily enforced than the old ones.

Wonderful!
I agree 100% that we need to be active in society as Jesus did.
We, the Church, are so much ‘not of the world’ we are no longer ‘in the world’ .
We need to demonstrate God’s love by being family. We do meetings and events etc. but don’t do family very well.
Well written!
