– Matthew 18:21–22

“Then Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them for they do not know what they’re doing.’

– Luke 23:34

“How delightfully good when brothers live together in harmony!”

– Psalm 133:1

Reflection

My story of coming into forgiveness comes out of a background of the trauma, pain and loss that I’ve experienced for close to 50 years.

When I was very young, I was put into a Catholic institution where I was sexually, physically and mentally abused. This occurred until my father found out my brother and I were in there, and he came and took us out. I was six years old. We went to live with my father and my stepmother.

I thought everything was going to be perfect now. I thought we’d have love in the family. But I was wrong.

The abuse continued. One time my brother was playing around with matches. When this was discovered, he was put on top of a hot stove. He still carries the scar to this day. Other times our punishment involved being tied to beds. My brother was tied up under the house.

My brother and I would cop racist abuse when we were walking to school. After I while, I couldn’t cope with the racism. I hated being black. And I became racist myself. I hated the white man. I hated every culture that came to our country.

I couldn’t take it anymore. I left at age 14 to live with my mother. I thought things would be better and I would feel what love is like. But I found out she was an alcoholic. She would go out drinking and partying.

I was taken out to the bush by the police for no reason. They told me to take my shirt off. I asked why. They said so we don’t leave any blood on it.

I started drugs and alcohol at the age of 14. I gave up alcohol at the age of 50.

I had toxic relationships and children in those toxic relationships. I had my oldest son when I was 15. And my son didn’t have a true father because I was young.

If it wasn’t for the cross, I wouldn’t be here. My life would be gone.

I knew I had to forgive because Jesus had forgiven me.

The first person I forgave was my mum. Then my father and stepmother. I forgave the police force.

I asked my children for forgiveness for everything I’ve said and done. For drugs and alcohol. For what I have done in my relationships. I asked forgiveness for what I’ve said as an Aboriginal person against other people.

Watchman Nee said unforgiveness is the biggest door we open up to Satan.

This nation needs to shut that door of unforgiveness.

Let forgiveness be first spread in the church. We are children of God. We have Jesus. Let’s show the example of forgiveness. Ephesians 4:1–3 says:

“Walk worthy of the calling you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

Satan will use every opportunity of unforgiveness to keep that door open. But forgiveness will shut that door and set you free.

Prayer

Abba Father, Yeshua and Holy Spirit, Father God, Lord Jesus and Holy Spirit,

I pray that forgiveness and unity will be spread in our families, communities and all the nation – especially with people with hardened hearts. May it spread all over the world.

I pray that your message will be received by your beloved children at the World Prayer Assembly (WPA) in Perth. May love manifest at the WPA among your beloved children from all the nations from which they come. May we come together in one accord and display our oneness in Yeshua.

Yeshua, I pray that your message of forgiveness and unity will spread through
your beloved children of this nation.

Through the blood of Yeshua.

Amen.

Pastor James you are a true inspiration and a walking, talking example of love and forgiveness.
Jesus’s ministry of reconciliation to our Father God through His death and resurrection is mirrored in your life.
You are a new creation indeed.
May God continue to bless you and your ministry.

My daughters abandoned me(an elderly widow) 22 years ago and have denied me any contact with my grandchildren with whom I have never been allowed to speak or meet despite having no criminal record, no past or present drug addiction , no alcohol or gambling problem. It appears I will die alone without ever seeing them again ? It is a family tragedy. My “crime “was that after their father died, I tried to cancel my wedding the day before I married a psychotic, drunken paedophile —a top Mining Executive. I was bullied into it by my father. Within days we were living in terror and after my operation, we fled to a Womens’Refuge. It took 2 crazy years to obtain a divorce and save our family home , but, by then the damage to my young daughters had been done . I have apologised to them but one has refused to ever make peace with me. The other one has written she “loves “me but, makes excuses for not wanting to see me or speak with me . I think that by expunging me out of their lives it blots out their awful memories and allows them to lead normal lives with their husbands and children.
Pastor James Dargin gives us a wonderful example of Forgiveness. The situation I am in is all MY fault. He is right that in refusing to forgive my daughters for so many years for my abandonment, I opened ” the biggest door to Satan. ” Jesus said : “Blessed are the Peace-makers “. I will continue to pray for them and my grandchildren every night.
Today we need peace in Australia (and around the World ), and, especially in families more than ever !

when I was reading your story Pastor I felt an enormous sense of love for you coming from our heavenly Father. This was so strong I started to cry. I thought Holy Spirit was telling me to say to you that God our loving Father loves you so much, more than we will ever know
I give Him thanks and praise in the Holy Name of our Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ. amen

Jesus said “pick up your cross and follow me”, not “c’mon everything is going to be wonderful”. Countess Antonia, your story is devastating for you and your daughters. Estrangement happens a lot and you can be the best parent in the best circumstances but it still happens. I am experiencing it too. We still have a life to follow Jesus and enjoy His creation. May ✝️God bless and protect you, and the thousands of parents dealing with it in Australia, and me.
