How much help does Hamas need? Well, according to the BBC, just a little bit more.
The British Broadcasting Company is facing calls for a police investigation after its recent hour-long documentary on life in Gaza.
The program was supposed to reveal what life is like for ordinary Palestinians through the eyes of a teenage boy.
It has since been revealed that the 14-year-old boy highlighted in the documentary is the son of a senior Hamas official.
Did the BBC not know who the boy’s father was?
Or is it the case that ordinary Palestinians are very much supportive of, and connected to, Hamas?
Some of us have been making THAT point for months now. It appears the BBC unwittingly confirmed it.
Sneaky Editing
But there’s more…
It has now been revealed that BBC editors deliberately and repeatedly edited interviews shown in the documentary to make Gazans sound less, well, Jew-hatey.
The program, aired in the UK, repeatedly mistranslated references to “the Jews” and omitted praise of “jihad”.
On at least five occasions, the words Yahud or Yahudy – Arabic for “Jew” or “Jews” – were changed to “Israel” or “Israeli forces”.
On other occasions, the references to Jews were removed from the subtitles altogether.
In other words, the BBC deliberately altered what was said in order to help Gazans sound less anti-semitic.
Worse, an interviewee praising Hamas leader Yaya Sinwar for “jihad against the Jews” was retranslated (or should I say deliberately mistranslated) so that he appeared to say Sinwar was fighting “Israeli forces”.
Just in case the BBC need assistance understanding the nuances of Hamas-speak, I should point out (though I ought not need to) that there is a stark difference between waging jihad against the Jews and fighting Israeli forces.
To wage jihad is to fight a holy war to obliterate all Jews, everywhere.
To declare jihad against Jews is an act of genocide against an ethnic group.
To hide this by exercising “editorial judgement” is to become an agent for Hamas propaganda.
Goebbels would be so proud.
The public broadcaster is now under pressure to reveal whether British taxpayer money was given to Hamas during the making of the documentary.
It would hardly surprise.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has said that if any evidence is found, counter-terrorism police should be called in.
Question… why is it that every national broadcaster in the Western world seems to hate its own country?
