Changing the Course of History Through Prayer: Day 7
Intention
To pray for a godly and righteous outcome to this election, knowing that only the Lord is God, and He has good and wise desires for this nation.
Scripture
“Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord.
“And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: ‘Lord, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.
“‘Give ear, Lord, and hear; open your eyes, Lord, and see; listen to the words Sennacherib has sent to ridicule the living God.
“‘It is true, Lord, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste these nations and their lands. They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands.
“‘Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, Lord, are God.’”
– 2 Kings 19:14–19
Reflection
Most believers in the West today do not worry much about pagan kings invading their lands.
But they will – or should – think about how the outcomes of things like federal elections might impact the Church and the nation. And the truth is, these two things are related, at least spiritually speaking.
Consider the well-known story of the Assyrian King Sennacherib, who threatened to take Jerusalem. This episode is so significant in Israel’s history that it is told three different times (2 Kings 18–19; 2 Chronicles 32; and Isaiah 36–37).
Israel was no match for this mighty pagan nation, so King Hezekiah prayed the prayer in 2 Kings 19:14–19 quoted above. And immediately following that prayer, in verses 20–21, we read this:
“Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to Hezekiah: ‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I have heard your prayer concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria. This is the word that the Lord has spoken against him…’”
The result was that the angel of the Lord put to death 185,000 of the Assyrian soldiers, and Sennacherib withdrew (2 Kings 19:35).
Of course, our fight today is far less militaristic, but it is just as spiritual. The results of the May 3 Australian election will be very significant indeed.
While the Liberals are far from where we want them to be, a return of a Labor-Greens government would be disastrous on so many fronts. So, our votes – and especially our prayers – are extremely important.
Please pray for a godly and righteous outcome.

Prayer
Father God, our nation and our Christian witness are in Your hands. Elections matter, and it is possible that there will be even more unrighteousness and wickedness in the land, depending on this vote.
We know that You bless a people and a land where righteousness reigns. How this all pans out in terms of various parties and platforms is not always clear, but we know that You know the best way for Australia to proceed.
Guide Your people to think and pray in sync with your good and wise desires for this nation. Amen.

The Church is wimpy, and it's destroying the nation. That's the blunt assessment of Rev. Chris Wickland, a UK clergyman who refuses to soften the gospel for perceived cultural acceptance. And he has a point. From the rise of "woke" institutional Christianity to the abdication of prophetic witness, the modern Church has traded its backbone for a desperate attempt to attain a disappearing seat at the table.

We're told that progressive politics equals compassion, inclusion and kindness. But shocking reactions to Ann Widdecombe's murder — celebrating her death and hoping she died in extreme pain — reveal the socialist left's blatant 'hate speech' hypocrisy and disturbing double standards of the highest degree.

thank you. I am praying with you
Many thanks Bill Meuhlenberg for this reflection..
‘Do not be afraid’ is such an essential part of the entire message of the Bible. Although the odds seem stacked against family and faith right now in our land, we place all our hope in God’s mighty power, in the love of Jesus Christ for poor sinners, which we all most certainly are, and in the grace of the Holy Spirit to bring good out of evil.
Let us all redouble our repentance, our fasting and our earnest prayers over the next fortnight for a godly parliament to be elected on May 3rd.
Thanks Roslyn and James.
