Promises That Never Fail: Day 16
Intention
To anchor our hearts in God’s unchangeable and certain promises, trusting fully in Him rather than in political leaders.
Scripture
“Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.”
– Joshua 21:45
Reflection
As another federal election approaches, our airwaves, social media feeds, and mailboxes become inundated with promises. Politicians vow to fix the housing crisis, alleviate the cost of living, heal the national psyche, and solve countless other social ills.
The pledges are grand, sometimes vague, and often tailored to tap into a deep undercurrent of public fear and dissatisfaction.
It’s no surprise. We live in an increasingly post-Christian culture, where transcendence is absent and material solutions are the only answers on offer. With no greater hope to cling to, people understandably turn to political leaders as saviours, and elections become a minefield of misplaced hope.
But as Christians, we are called to something different. While we should engage politically and vote wisely – supporting leaders and policies that reflect righteousness and truth – we must not be seduced by the illusion that any earthly government can usher in the Kingdom of God.
The promises of politics are uncertain and fleeting. But what about the promises of God? Not one has ever failed. Joshua 21:45 reminds us that every single word the Lord spoke to Israel came to pass. His faithfulness is perfect. His Word is sure.
Unlike the ever-changing slogans of political campaigns, God’s promises are not designed to win our votes. They are given out of covenantal love. In Christ, we have the sure promise of eternal life, the presence of the Spirit, the forgiveness of sins, and the certainty of Christ’s coming kingdom. These promises are not vague or manipulative. They are concrete, eternal, and grounded in the blood of Jesus.
So, as we cast our votes on May 3, let’s examine the affections of our hearts. Are we placing our hope in campaign platforms or in the unshakable truth of God’s Word? Are we driven by fear and anxiety, or by a peace that comes from knowing Christ reigns?
Let’s vote thoughtfully, prayerfully, and with conviction. But let’s also remember Daniel 2:21: “He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings.”
The Lord is sovereign over election results, just as He is sovereign over history. That reality frees us from fear, despair, and undue hope in political solutions.
Because our trust isn’t in the state’s promises, but in God’s.
Before you vote, pause. Ask yourself, “Where is my hope resting?” Use the moment to realign your heart. Read Scripture. Pray. Reflect on God’s promises, not just the platforms of men. And vote not in fear or desperation, but in confidence that God is at work in and beyond politics.

Prayer
Father, thank You that my security doesn’t rest on political outcomes, but in Your unfailing Word. You are my rock and my salvation, my ever-present help in times of trouble.
Forgive me if I have placed my hope in a party, a politician, or a policy more than in You. Search my heart, Lord, and redirect my affections towards the truth of Christ and His eternal kingdom.
May I vote with wisdom, courage, and love, not as someone clinging to political promises, but as one anchored in Your unchanging faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
