Christ Loves the Church: Day 14

14 October 2025

3.1 MINS

Intention

To know that the Church is God’s gift to the world, whom Christ loves and sacrificed himself for.

Scripture

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things consist.

“And he is the head of the body, the Church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he may have the pre-eminence.”

– Colossians 1:17–18

“And he put all things under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things to the Church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.”

– Ephesians 1:22–23

“For the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.”

– Revelation 19:7b

Reflection

Christ loves the Church. He has sacrificed himself for her, wooed her from the beginning of time, made her beautiful, and given her his own holiness. He has given her meaning and purpose and is leading her to a glorious conclusion.

We, too, should love the Church. She is the bride of Christ and the body of Christ. She is the expression of Christ in this world.

Everything we love about the Lord, we see reflected and expressed in the Church. Yes, there are examples of rebellion and waywardness, instances of behavioural inconsistencies with the gospel, and moments when people in the Church fail – sometimes miserably.

However, we mostly see the beauty of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We see compassion for the lost and sacrifice for the voiceless and powerless.

We see, if we look for it, beauty – the beauty of the Lord shining through the people of the Church.

Although sin is the problem that infects all of humanity, it is Jesus Christ’s substitutionary death and resurrection that makes redemption possible for every woman and man, girl and boy. Those who place their faith in Jesus Christ for redemption become the redeemed – the Church, the bride of Christ.

We must never forget that Christ loves his Church. She is his bride and he loves her.

As we pray for the Church and for her leaders – those who sacrifice their lives to lead the people of God – let us not lose sight of the one who has the pre-eminence, the one whose body the Church is, the one who inhabits, empowers, motivates and fills all in all: Christ Jesus our Lord.

Give him glory today for his wonderful gift to the world: his bride, the Church.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, today we thank you for the beautiful gift of your Church, and your beauty shining through her people.

Lord, we lift our leaders to you, asking you to fill them with your wisdom and power. Give them gifts of insight and perception. Grant them vision for the future and the courage to pursue it in your mighty power.

Spirit, lead Christ’s body in your mission, your purposes, and your ways. Lead the Church in power, courage and boldness that perseveres to the glorious end you have prepared for your saints.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Dear Brother, with all love can I urge you to go and read the bible for yourself. If you have questions pray about them and the Holy Spirit will reveal the truth to you. Specifically read the verses (in their context ) provided above for the answer to your questions.

    what church ?
When the Bible was written there was synagogues and temples and allegedly it took 500 years to write the Bible. According to James Micheners book the source, if I remember correctly.
In between the church, if you mean Christianity, was being persecuted ruthlessly by the Roman Empire whj were slaughtering Christians as subversive enemies of their Glorious State. That was the era when they hunted thd Waldensees across Europe murdering them, when they were feeding christians to the lions in the Colosseum, crucifying them killing them asap .
Do you mean that church ?
Or do you mean the one when ,after killing all of the christian’s who were custodians of the original oral traditions witnessed by those who followed Jesus in the beginning, who were passing his Word down from father to son , then they voided that Rome would take over Christianity now and make it their state religion?
    Which ?
