Reaching the Culture with the Courage of Christ: Day 22
Intention
To know that God is presenting the Church with unprecedented opportunities to proclaim his truth, shape society, and win the lost – if we would take it.
Scripture
“Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together
against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
‘Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.’”
– Psalm 2:1–3
Reflection
For decades, the Western church has pursued a strategy of winsome witness – influencing the culture circumspectly, whispering about sin, and avoiding the hard topics. Yet our societies have continued to drift from their Christian foundations, and the census data on adherence to Christian faith reflects it. Many efforts have yielded little lasting change.
But it would seem that God is highlighting a bolder and more biblical path. Recent events illustrate the extraordinary potential of truth-telling in an age of deception.
When Charlie Kirk was assassinated, over 200 million people watched his memorial service. Some of the world’s most powerful leaders spoke openly about Christ, urging people to turn to Him. The reach of that single event dwarfed even the biggest Billy Graham crusades.
In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s martyrdom, church attendance, baptisms, and Bible sales have surged. Stories abound of people with no prior faith background discovering the gospel after following public voices like Charlie who engaged culture courageously.
Just the other day, I heard a pastor share about a couple who came to church for the first time ever. They told him they had no church background at all, but they started listening to Jordan Peterson, which led them to another conservative podcaster, and then another, and another, until they realised that all the people they respected and were listening to were Christians. So, they decided they needed to get a Bible and find a church.
In our day, God is using cultural engagement as a bridge to the gospel, proving that the Church’s voice in society really matters.
Psalm 2 reminds us that the visible battles raging in our culture are only symptoms of something far deeper – a spiritual war. The nations still “conspire,” the rulers still “band together against the Lord and his Anointed,” rejecting the authority of God and the moral order he established. What we call the culture war is, in truth, the outworking of this cosmic conflict between rebellion and righteousness. When the Church enters that struggle with courage and conviction, we are not fighting for ‘politics’ but standing for the lordship of Christ over every heart and every sphere of life.
Leaning into cultural hot topics doesn’t need to be a barrier – it can actually be a platform for the gospel. When the Church speaks boldly, listens to the questions of our age, and answers with biblical clarity, hearts respond. What might seem like a cultural debate over marriage, abortion, free speech, or identity is actually a spiritual moment: a chance to declare God’s authority, truth, and love.
The opportunity before the Church is profound. As Paul reminds us: “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).
The spiritual war for hearts, minds and civilisation is real, but so is the Christian’s authority when we speak the truth in love. God has given us the tools to “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5).
Bold engagement in culture is not optional – it is part of our calling to advance God’s kingdom, reclaim the moral and spiritual foundations of our society, and apply the gospel in every area of life. If the Church rises with courage, prayer, and clarity, we have the potential to shift the tide.
The world is watching. God is opening new doors. If we seize the opportunity before us, countless hearts may turn to Christ. The needle can move. The future of our civilisation can change. Revival really is possible.

Prayer
Lord, help me apply the good news of Jesus in every sphere of life. Give me wisdom to know when to speak, clarity to convey your heart, and love that draws others to you. Open doors for the gospel through this moment in history, and make me faithful to walk through them. May your kingdom advance as the Church steps forward in boldness, trusting that your Spirit always goes before us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
