Day 4: Blessings upon Blessings
Intention
To multiply the gospel so that we and the whole body of Christ receive blessings upon blessings.
Scripture
“I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.”
– 1 Corinthians 9:22–23
Reflection
The gospel is a fountain of blessings to all who receive it. The gospel is, after all, the greatest of all news.
This good news carries countless blessings: a forever family, eternal life, forgiveness of sins, a new identity, healing, gifts, freedom from sin and wonders of all kinds to be received and enjoyed — to name but a few.
But less known, or less thought about, is Paul’s insistence that the gospel’s blessings are able to be transferred and multiplied.
In 1 Corinthians 9, the apostle Paul writes of sharing in the blessings of the gospel received by others. Just as the new believer partakes in the blessings of the gospel, so too do those same blessings flow back to Paul — who is already richly blessed.
Blessings upon blessings? That is exactly what 1 Corinthians 9:23 communicates.
It seems Paul came to realise that the more people who partake in the gospel, the more blessings he — and the entire body of Christ — gets to share in.
Simply put: to multiply our blessings in the body of Christ, we must first multiply the gospel.
So how can we effectively multiply the gospel?
First, we “become all things”. What do we have in common with the rich, the poor, the Muslim, the child, the proud, the thief, the disabled, the aunty, the flight attendant? All of us “have sinned”, yet Christ died for us all (Romans 3:23; 2 Corinthians 5:15).
When our identity is fixed in Jesus alone, we choose to know nothing among others except Jesus Christ and him crucified (1 Corinthians 2:2). In this, we rightly see others as God sees them: sinners, yes, but infinitely valuable, made in God’s image, and infused with God-given potential to be unlocked by the new birth. The believer becomes God’s beloved child, through whom the gospel’s blessings can truly flow.
Second, we go “to all people”. Stony or soft ground; near or far; sudden passers-by or long-awaited catch-ups; friends, or critics. Why? That we “might save some” (1 Corinthians 9:22).
Third, we use “all possible means”. Every gift, tool, resource and — above all — every opportunity to demonstrate the love of Jesus should be used to further the gospel.
Do you desire to see more joy in God’s church? More salvations? More grace? More freedom? More power? More faith? More healing? More gifts? More provision? More favour? More people?
Then don’t stop at longing. Don’t even stop at prayer.
Press forward in the gospel and be assured that “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).
Go in love, go boldly — and go share the gospel.

Prayer
LORD God,
May we be those who desire to know nothing but Christ and him crucified. Give us a greater love for those you love, and a greater hatred for the things you hate.
Open our eyes to see the answers to our prayers in the people around us.
May our love for you and desire to share in your blessings outweigh every fear, distraction or false idol in our hearts. Multiply the joy of our salvation as we share this good news with all we meet.
Sustain us with your presence each day. For it’s not by might, nor by power, but only by your Spirit (Zechariah 4:6).
In Jesus’ mighty name we pray,
Amen.
