Iran rally

Melbourne March Demands Freedom for Iran

Thousands rallied in Melbourne backing Iran’s pro-democracy movement, with former MP Keith Wolahan urging support for regime change and warning of rising Islamist extremism at home.

Former Liberal Party member for Menzies, Keith Wolahan, has thrown his support behind Iran’s democratic community as they continue their fight against the oppressive Islamic Republic regime.

Several thousand rally goers marched from the State Library to Victorian Parliament House on 8 February, with the Israeli community standing shoulder-to-shoulder with their Iranian brothers and sisters.

A number of Australians also attended, proudly waving the national flag in defence of shared Judeo-Christian values.

The event was organised by Mel-Iran – the Iranian-Australian patriotic and constitutional network.

The group distributed flyers which stated that more than 36,000 civilians were killed by the Islamic Regime over a two-day period in January.

“Peaceful protestors are met with gunfire, arrests, torture, sexual violence, disappearances and executions, while internet shutdowns and censorship hide these crimes from the world,” the flyers said.

“Our demands: End the Islamic regime, no deal with murderers! Recognise Reza Pahlavi as the transition lead to establish a secular democracy in Iran and equal rights for all citizens.”

Despite living in exile, Pahlavi has devoted all his efforts over the past four decades to Iran’s freedom.

The Islamic Republic of Iran was established in 1979.

Wolahan said those who wanted democracy restored in Iran should be supported in Australia and not condemned.

“I think people recognise a lot of the problems and tragedies that have happened in the world have had a common source – the Islamic Republic,” he told The Daily Declaration.

“All signs point back there. So I think there’s a common belief and hope that change there will lead to change in many respects.

“There are a lot of proxy wars being conducted in the region, and the Islamic Republic is behind it.

“It’s not the Iranian people – it’s the Islamic Republic.”

Israelis and Iranians Stand United

Co-founder of the Lions of Zion activist movement for Israelis, Yaacov Travitz, marched alongside democratic-seeking Iranians in Melbourne last Sunday.

He said the history of friendship between both nations was a very long and important one, and many Israelis feel indebted to Iranians who seek a peaceful, free and democratic future for their nation.

“Something a lot of people don’t understand is that there is a history of two to three thousand years between Jewish people and Iranians,” he said.

“Back in the time of Cyrus the Great, when he liberated our people in the Babylonian colonisation or conquest.

“He liberated our people, allowed us to go back to the land of Israel, and if that wasn’t enough – he helped us build a second temple. A holy site.

“So we have a debt that we owe them. That’s why we are so supportive of their people fighting back against their regime, which is not just bad for us, but it’s bad for their own people.

“They’re killing their own people. On the other side of the world, there’s not much we can do physically.

“But we can be the voice of those who are not given a voice. And they’re shut off from communication and not allowed to talk.”

Security Concerns for Australia

Iranian-Australian rally goer, Arya, said the situation back in his homeland was critical.

“Some people can’t afford eggs. It’s a resource-rich country, and the people don’t deserve this situation,” he said.

Marching alongside Arya was his mate, Dylan.

He cautioned that if the situation worsened in Iran, it would not benefit Australians.

“Australia won’t be safe as well,” he said.

“My mum, dad and sister are over there. Every night I’m shaking (worrying about their safety).”

Azadeh is a rally organiser with Mel-Iran.

She said her peers warned the Albanese government three years ago that a rise in radical Islamic ideology would lead to a horrific terrorist event, such as the Bondi Beach massacre on December 14.

That was when terrorists Sajiid Akram and his son Naveed Akram gunned down 15 innocent people while they were celebrating the Jewish holiday of Hannukkah.

“We gave a notice to the Australian government three years ago because we thought something was going to happen like Bondi,” she said.

“But they didn’t listen.”

Terror Fears and Domestic Tensions

In the week after the Bondi terror attacks, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese apologised to the Jewish community, adding that “urgency and unity” were needed.

This included creating an aggravated offence for hate preaching.

But One Nation Victoria Secretary, Bianca Colecchia, and Melbourne Freedom Rally organiser, Harrison McLean, criticised these rushed-in laws in this publication as reactionary because of their broad powers following the radical Islamic terrorism event on Australian soil.

Many conservative Australians now feel their freedom of speech is now threatened due to these laws.

Azadeh added that US President Donald Trump was the only world leader capable of re-establishing democracy in Iran via his powerful military, which has mobilised in the Middle East region.

“He is the only one who can give us our freedom, so we are counting on him. Hopefully, he can do something quickly,” she said.

“No more delays.”

Meanwhile, another shared sentiment at the rally for Iran was support for Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

He flew to Australia to mourn with the families of victims from the Bondi terrorist attacks.

“People are free to be angry about what they want. But I don’t see what’s controversial about the President of Israel coming to Australia,” Wolahan said.

“A president who, I might add, has politics from the left of centre in Israel.

“Not that that matters. Of course, people are going to be angry, but there’s nothing unusual about that.

“He’s here just to mourn with the community over what happened at Bondi.”

A Call for Western Leadership

Travitz said more Australians needed to step up in the fight against the spread of radical Islamic ideology.

“The amount of Australians standing up for Australia against Islamism – it’s ridiculous how small it is,” he said.

“I said that in one of my speeches – the flag that a country has should not be taken for granted.

“The freedoms that we have should not be taken for granted. Those freedoms were won by fighting for them.

“By fighting against evil and bad forces. Even on the other side of the world, we hear people say ‘we don’t want foreign conflicts on our shores’.

“Well, what was Gallipoli? That wasn’t on our shores. That was fighting for what was right.”

Steven attended last Sunday’s rally with his Roving Ambassador and Signboard Presenter for the C02 Climate Facts boards attached to his body.

The staunch Net Zero critic said it was becoming increasingly difficult to present facts to those aligned with the Free Palestine marches, which are now common in Melbourne most weeks.

“I get attacked from A to Z because I display the Aussie flag. The Islamists see it as an Israeli flag,” he said.

“And the Marxists hate it. They bastardise, distort or change the meaning of words. Left is right, and you’re a racist if you don’t agree with them.

“And you’re dealing with the woke mind virus. They’re not critically minded. I doubt they could ever be critically minded.

“They can’t argue, be pragmatic or rational. It’s around the world – you’ve got the woke side and the critical side.”

Saeed is a regular feature on the Victorian Parliament steps with his activism for democracy to return to Iran.

He says that he has also become a target for advocating for freedom back in his homeland.

“Some people love me, some people hate me. They’ve hit me, and there’s been blood down my face. They throw their drinks in my face,” he said.

“All of these things have happened. Every day for three years.

“Thirteen years ago, I ran from my government.”

Brave Saeed/Steven ! The same day as the Munich Conference , in response to the Iranian Crown Prince, about One Million people from around the World marched to end the Islamic Republic of Iran. One of the biggest demonstration was in freezing weather and snow in Toronto (about 250, 000). At the same time, inspite of the danger, in Iran there were mourning ceremonies for some of the young victims. At one they released white doves. Yesterday the latest news is the UK Parlt. will introduce a Bill which has the support of The House of Lords, to establish Sharia Law and punish ” Islamophobia ” with jail. The last census showed one million Australians are Muslim , ie 1 in 28 people. The next will show the ratio much higher , perhaps one in 15 people ? Everything the UK does we copy, so expect the same –Sharia Law and jail for “Islamophobia”. I cry because in a very short period of time this will be The Islamic State of Australia in which those that refuse to convert will be second class citizens (dhimmis paying jizya, a special tax). I can’t afford to escape to Christian USA. We will be persecuted just like Christians in Nigeria, Pakistan, Egypt , etc whose homes, churches and schools are destroyed and people are murdered and raped . I blame our politicians of both Right + Left who have betrayed us . Forget what is being said by politicians–the 34 ” ISIS Brides ” and their offspring ( now in their teens) WILL arrive , their passports paid by Charities like “Save the Children ” or the Muslim community in Australia from the millions Albanese Govt has donated of our taxes to them to stop “Islamaphobia ” ? I am not sure if it was Channel 7 or 9 which said yesterday that it was imperative that one boy who is 17 ” comes now , or, he goes to an adult prison ” ! What has he committed that he needs to go to jail ? It was , also, mentioned one woman was a security risk . That means she could go on the”Watch List ” which already has 18, 000 being watched . Stop wasting money–deport all 18, 000. We don’t need any of these people who, are in my opinion ,a danger to the Australian public. Since Vatican II in the early 1960s there has been Ecumenical Dialogue with Muslim countries. It has achieved NOTHING ! Which Muslim countries have allowed Bibles to be brought into their countries ? Reading or owning one , usually means death. Please pray fervently daily for freedom for Iran to become a secular democracy, and for all persecuted Christians in Islamic countries (which now includes the UK ), for Israel to survive, and for Australia to stop its headlong rush into becoming another Islamic State of Iran.

Several years ago, after Oct 7 2023, the Irani Christians around the world and in Iran began a 120 day fast and praying time for their country. They prayed for forgiveness and removal of the regime that has taken over their beautiful culture and freedom to be a Christian …They prayed much for the safety of all knowing anyone who speaks up about the regime would be killed or imprisoned. To date it is estimated that up to 90.000 have been killed in Iran in recent protests but these brave man and women have kept praying and kept asking God to stem the tide of blood and to bring a change in the Govt that stolen power once the Shah was assassinated. The tragedy is that the cost is very great and there are not only acts of murder but acts of rape to punish all who stand up and acts of betrayal by neighbours. The world must hear these cries and the Christian church must pray and help stand with Irani Christians who wants peace and not harm to their loves d ones
The Lord knows the timing of this and what will be the outcome. The brave ones who stood in Melbourne shoulder to shoulder with the Jewish brother and sisters. The Irani’s know that they face possible slaughter or reprisals for taking a stand and protesting in Iran and the Jewish people know antisemitism has reached unprecedented heights (like the pre-Holocaust days) . Death threats come to family members in iran when they take a stand in the West. The surveillance system operates 24/7 in Iran and across the world while the radical Islamic and Pro Palestinian media incite Jihad and calls to take over the land of Israel and kill the Jews (though some pretend they want peace). …May God protect these dear people of iran in and outside the country. May God Almighty also protect the Jewish people whom he has chosen to be His own people. We thank Him that he has also added in the gentile believers during the time that some of Israel is blinded to the Messiah (Romans 9-11) .

Why does everyone, even this sites authors turn a blind eye to the Muslims that have been persecuted l, killed, imprisoned and made slaves? Marches and outrage for others that have been less persecuted as Muslims but in China its from everyone even here “nothing to see here move on!”
Scream genocide against the Jews, scream hatred against the public in Iran, scream about Muslim islamaphobia im Australia, but “shoooooooooloosh, don’t upset China, shoooooooosh about their genocide and crimes against humanity, don’t upset the protest apple cart”.

Indeed there is a need to support peace-loving Iranians AND to stand firmly against the terrorist and tyrannical system called Islam!
I was at the Adelaide rally in front of Parliament House on Saturday 17th January, to support the Iranian Community here. Was a great rally with a good turnout of people.
One young lady I spoke to, said that the Iranian people in Iran, were forced be Muslim. When I asked her what she was here in Australia, she said ‘Nothing’ – she did not follow Islam. Her people DON’T WANT ISLAM!
And so WE need to reject Islam, for obvious reasons. And let our politicians know loud and clear – VOTE against them in the next Election.

    This is not playing games…
As of February 2026, the United States has conducted a massive military buildup in the Middle East to deter Iran and respond to regional instability. This deployment, described by analysts as the largest surge in airpower since the 2003 Iraq War (around 270 aircraft, not including drones), and involves approximately 50,000 U.S. personnel.

    * Naval Assets
The U.S. Navy has positioned at least 12 to 14 surface combatants in the region, centred around two major carrier strike groups (CSGs).

++ Carrier Strike Groups (each has around 75 Aircraft):
    – USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72): Currently operating in the Arabian Sea with Carrier Air Wing 9, which includes F-35C Lightning II stealth fighters and F/A-18E/F Super Hornets.
    – USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78): The world’s largest aircraft carrier, redirected from the Caribbean to the Middle East.
    – Guided-Missile Destroyers: At least eight Arleigh Burke-class destroyers are in the theatre (including the USS Frank E. Petersen Jr., USS Michael Murphy, and USS Spruance), equipped with Aegis missile defense and Tomahawk cruise missiles.
    – Submarines: Nuclear-powered attack submarines and likely guided-missile submarines (SSGNs), such as the USS Georgia, which can carry up to 154 Tomahawk missiles.
    – Other Vessels: Three Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) are stationed at the Bahrain naval station.

    * Airpower Assets (in addition to the CSGs)
The U.S. has deployed over 120 aircraft to forward bases in Jordan, Qatar, and the UAE.

    – Stealth Fighters: F-22 Raptors and F-35 Lightning IIs are present to provide air superiority and breach defended airspace.
    – Strike & Electronic Warfare: F-15E Strike Eagles (positioned at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan) for deep-penetration strikes and EA-18G Growlers for jamming enemy radar.
    – Strategic Bombers: B-2 Spirit stealth bombers remain on high alert at bases in the U.S. (Missouri) and have previously been used for “bunker-busting” missions against Iranian nuclear sites.
    – Support Aircraft: A massive logistical tail including over 85 aerial refuelling tankers (KC-135, KC-46) and 170 cargo planes (C-17, C-5M) to sustain high sortie rates, alongside E-3 Sentry (AWACS) and RC-135W Rivet Joint reconnaissance planes.

    ** Defensive & Land Assets
    – Missile Defence: THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) batteries in Israel and the UAE, plus Patriot missile systems at bases in Qatar, Kuwait, and Jordan to intercept Iranian ballistic missiles.
    – Unmanned Systems: MQ-9 Reaper and MQ-4 Triton drones for constant surveillance of the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian military movements.
