No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani Doubles Down on Her Commitment to Christ

Pop icon Gwen Stefani is defying critics by speaking boldly about her Christian faith, crediting prayer, motherhood and music as anchors through heartbreak and renewed purpose.

To the chagrin of her Christian-hating fans, No Doubt’s frontwoman, Gwen Stefani, is becoming more and more vocal about her faith.

Those critics want Stefani to stop.

Defying their demands, she’s doubled down.

The “Just a Girl” Ska-punk female pioneer recently sat down with Jeff Cavins (Hallow App) to discuss how her commitment to Christ empowers motherhood and music life.

The proud mum of three and Grammy award-winning artist said she was built to run to God, not run from Him.

Although raised in a Catholic home, distance and distractions had eroded Christian consistency in her life. This was enough to allow her to drift away.

From Heartbreak to Renewal

It was an unexpected divorce that brought her back.

Stefani’s marriage to Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale ended over his alleged affair with their nanny in 2015.

Living out that valley moment with three kids in tow, Stefani unashamedly told People magazine in 2023 that “faith and prayer” carried her all the way.

“Everybody pretty much knows that at one point my life fell apart.”

“It was terrible, and there are so many people out there who have gone through the same thing. When that happened, I had to literally start over again.”

Answering a question about the work-life struggle and the ever-important fight for balance, Stefani said,

“The only way that I’ve gotten this far is with my spiritual faith and being able to take time out to pray.”

“You see the miracles,” she added, “and that’s inspiration and fuel to keep it going.”

This is consistent with what Stefani told Cavins via the Hallow App.

A Miracle and a Mother’s Faith

At 44, the No Doubt singer said her eight-year-old at the time was praying for her to have another child.

Although Stefani explained to him that she was too old, he persisted and prayed, “Please God, let my mom have a baby.”

Stefani said she thought, “‘Wow, look at my little boy, he’s praying for me.”

“He was praying every night, and I never asked him to do that, and never taught him that.”

Four weeks later, Stefani found out she was pregnant.

“That was the first miracle. It was a full-on gift,” she said, adding that it seriously kick-started her journey towards reconnecting with God.

“I didn’t have the relationship that I have now with the Lord.”

“I thought that I had something, but it was nothing compared to today,” Stefani remarked.

When it comes to Christianity, the frontwoman and fashion designer admits she’s “still underground.”

“I’m not even close to being on the mountain, [which] is where I want to be or need to be.”

“I still call myself a baby Christian because I’m certainly a work in progress.”

Love, Marriage and Spiritual Growth

Crediting her mum, Patti, for being “the one who planted the seed of faith” in her life, Stefani said Patti “knew I needed that, and I was going to need it, and she was right.”

Normally quiet when it comes to sharing about her personal life on social media, Stefani is becoming bolder about sharing her faith in Christ.

This is despite critics smearing here with accusations that she’s monetising prayer and using faith as a prop.

Talking with Cavins about going from superstar to the Saviour, she said, “The most important thing in life is your relationship with God.”

Post-divorce, Stefani met country music solo artist Blake Shelton. After years of working together on The Voice, they married in 2021.

Stefani told Cavin that Shelton lifted her faith higher.

Discussing active love (intentional giving), she indicated that Shelton was the real deal.

“I would be so uncomfortable when someone was sacrificing or actively trying to love me through their actions by maybe sacrificing something,” she continued.

Music as Ministry

Stefani also seemed to suggest that she wrestled with anxiety about the choice between God and music.

She then recalled telling herself, “At a certain point in the last ten years, ‘No. God made this for me to do.’”

“And if I don’t do it and share it, that’s a sin. Like, I have to keep doing it.”

Even if it’s “not like being in a church, but just sharing her story through a song, and it’s a silly song. That’s what she’s made for,” Stefani said.

Conscious of the snares of pride, she added that “being able to accept that God chose me to do that is something I’ve learned how to do.”

“The closest I am to God is when I’m doing music.”

“I just want God to use me. I just want people to see God’s light through me.”

From here, the dedicated mum of three asked people to pray more for her.

“I always look at spiritual exercise the same way I look at regular exercise,” explained Stefani.

“At times, you feel so inspired, and you just want to hold on to that so bad, like during a crisis. For me, I just want to learn.”

Stefani then requested prayer.

“Pray that I could be more consistent and get closer to God. That I can just even continue to find what my purpose is.”

Concluding, the Ska music legend shared that her “career is in a different season.”

Stefani narrowed that down, asking people to specifically pray for her as a mother, saying “she’d also love that because being a mother is a really big deal.”

The greatest calling in this life, by far, is to marriage and parenthood.
Get married, have a family, put your spouse and children first. You’ll be poorer in financial terms and nearly always tired but vastly richer in terms of your relationship with God. Because marriage and procreation is the fundamental reason for our being here!

Yes! There’s a lot I couldn’t include here because it’s really not our business to “tell-all.” I’ve just given an overview of what Stefani has said. I also think that she’s right to be cautious about overselling or defending her faith. It only feeds the trolls. What surprised me the most when working on this piece, is just how family centred this pop-icon of the 90s and beyond actually is. I was impressed, not just with her values, and how she lives them out, but also the fact that “tough-as-nails” Blake Shelton was on board. Encouraging news!
