Only Christianity Can Save Australia
Falling birth rates, lonely young men, exploited young women — the symptoms are everywhere. To save Australia, we must return to the Christian centre our nation has spent decades dismantling.
Australia is in trouble, but the trouble goes much deeper than Canberra, interest rates, immigration numbers, or whichever party happens to be in office. Those things matter, of course — they do — but they sit on top of something far more serious. The country has lost its spiritual centre, and once that happens, everything else starts to come loose.
Australia feels different from how it was a generation or two ago. People were proud of the country and, more importantly, they believed it had a future. Neighbours knew one another, families were stronger, churches were full, and children could stay outside playing until dinner without their parents fearing the worst. There was a sense that if you worked hard, kept your word, and did the right thing by others, you could build a decent life.
That way of life did not appear out of thin air. It grew from a Christian understanding of the world, even among people who were not regular churchgoers. Australians understood that freedom came with responsibility, that marriage meant something, that children were a blessing, and that their duties to family, community, and country mattered more than indulging every passing desire.
We have spent decades pulling that foundation apart, then acting surprised by the cracks in the walls.
Broken Politics, Broken Industry, Broken Manhood
You can see the damage almost everywhere now. Politics has become a career game played by people who often seem more interested in pleasing corporate donors, lobbyists, and global institutions than the Australians who put them there. Too many enter public life to build a profile, win an ideological argument, or secure the next well-paid position. Service has taken a back seat.
The economy tells its own story. Australia once made things. We had industries that employed whole towns and gave people the pride of knowing their work mattered to the country. These days, we dig resources out of the ground, ship them overseas, and buy back the finished products at a premium while politicians tell us this is modern prosperity. Most ordinary Australians can see what has happened. We have become dependent, exposed, and far too willing to sell off the future for a short-term boost to the figures.
The change in our young men is hard to ignore. Boys were once raised to become men who could provide, protect, build, and take responsibility. Now, many grow up hearing that masculinity is dangerous, that their instincts are suspect, and that they are somehow guilty before they have even done anything. After years of that, we wonder why so many retreat into gaming, pornography, and isolation.
I do not believe most of those young men are lazy or beyond hope. Many are simply starved of purpose. They have never been told that their strength can be used for good, that fatherhood is honourable, or that their country may one day need courage from them. A society that spends years tearing down manhood should not be shocked when boys fail to grow into confident men.
How the Revolution Betrayed Women
Young women have been betrayed in a different way. They were once encouraged to aim high, whether that meant becoming doctors, teachers, scientists, mothers, business owners, or community leaders. Now, a huge part of online culture tells them that attention is the same thing as worth and that selling access to their bodies is somehow empowering.
It is a rotten bargain. Platforms such as OnlyFans dress up exploitation as independence, and plenty of powerful people are happy to applaud it because there is money to be made. A young woman can be told for years that dignity, modesty, and restraint are oppressive, then be congratulated when strangers pay to consume her online. That is not liberation. It is an old form of exploitation with better branding.
The same culture has poisoned the relationship between men and women. Social media rewards conflict, resentment, and suspicion because outrage keeps people scrolling. Men are told that women are manipulative. Women are told that men are dangerous or useless. Both sides are encouraged to treat intimacy as a transaction and commitment as a trap.
Then we look around and wonder why people are marrying later, why fewer children are being born, and why so many young Australians feel lonely. Most still want love, marriage, and family. They just live in a culture that makes those things harder, more expensive, and less respected than they were for earlier generations.
The sexual revolution promised freedom, but much of what it produced was confusion, damaged relationships, and people who no longer know what they are meant to be. Our institutions now celebrate almost every form of sexual experimentation while treating Christian teaching on sex, marriage, and family as backward or cruel. Academia promotes it. Entertainment normalises it. Corporate human resources departments enforce it.
Ordinary people can see the imbalance. A Christian who says marriage is between a man and a woman is treated as a problem, while increasingly extreme claims about sex and gender are presented as beyond question. People are expected to nod along, use the approved words, and pretend they cannot see what is happening in front of them.
Family Collapse and Manufactured Division
This has consequences far beyond culture-war arguments. Families are the basic building blocks of a stable country. They raise children, care for the old, support people through illness, and teach the habits that hold communities together. When families weaken, government grows, loneliness spreads, and people become easier to control because they have fewer loyalties outside the state and the market.
Australia’s falling birth rate should have set off alarm bells years ago. Instead of asking why young people cannot afford homes, why marriage has been undermined, or why having children is treated as a lifestyle burden, politicians have reached for mass immigration to keep the economy expanding on paper. It saves them from dealing with the causes and allows them to boast about growth while congestion, housing pressure, and social tension get worse.
Australians never voted for the scale of transformation now taking place. They were not honestly asked whether they wanted population growth at this speed or whether they were comfortable with communities changing beyond recognition in a few short years. When they raise concerns, they are too often smeared rather than heard.
Identity politics has made matters worse. Australians are constantly sorted by race, ancestry, sex, and grievance, then encouraged to compete for recognition and special treatment. The old idea that we were one people, with shared duties and a common national story, has been pushed aside. Division has become useful to people who make careers out of managing it.
How to Save Australia
None of this could have taken hold so easily in a country that remained confident in its faith. Christianity gave Australians a standard outside politics. It reminded rulers that they were not gods, told citizens that liberty came with moral limits, and taught that every person would one day answer to a higher authority.
Once that was pushed aside, desire took the place of duty. Personal preference became sacred. Institutions stopped asking whether something was good, true, or healthy and started asking whether it could be presented as progress.
We now have a country wealthy enough to provide almost every comfort, and yet full of people who feel anxious, isolated, and unsure why they are here. We have more entertainment than any generation before us, but less peace. We have endless talk about identity, yet fewer people seem to know who they are.
Christianity answers questions politics cannot touch. It tells a man that his life should be ordered towards service, sacrifice, and responsibility. It tells a woman that her worth does not depend on attention from strangers. It tells parents that raising children is sacred work and reminds the powerful that authority is a duty, not a licence to rule as they please.
It also gives people something modern culture has stripped away: forgiveness. Today, every mistake is recorded, every old comment can be dug up, and every person can be cast out of polite society for holding the wrong view. Christianity says people can repent, change, and begin again. That matters in a country becoming harsher by the year.
The government cannot manufacture that kind of renewal. It can pass laws, collect taxes, and build infrastructure, but it cannot give a young man a reason to live or teach a family how to love one another. It cannot restore trust between neighbours or fill the emptiness that sends so many people looking for meaning in sex, consumption, politics, or endless online distraction.
Australia drew on Christian faith for generations, often without admitting how much it depended on it. Even people who rejected the church still lived by the moral habits Christianity had planted. Those habits have now been spent down, and the results are becoming impossible to ignore.
The country does not need a new slogan or another inquiry. It needs to recover the source of the values that once held ordinary life together. Until that happens, we will keep arguing over symptoms while the deeper sickness spreads.

Well done George ! Yes, forgiveness is important because otherwise we live in a harsh ,and harsher society as you pointed out, but, the person(s) have to feel genuinely sorry and change their ways. So much has gone wrong in Australia in the last 60 years, thanks to both Labor and Liberal Party Policies. It is a disgrace that in one of the potentially richest countries on Earth, one of the major Gold Producers , that we work and live in such miserable conditions, and, in old age, too ! Whitlam’s idea of universal university education was a dreadful idea which stopped people marrying and having babies when young. Later , with HECS it became a millstone around just about everybody’s neck , often for a stupid Degree in eg Visual Arts ( see Kate McGuinness’ and Mahoud Fazal ‘s death threat to Gina Rinehart ). Job insecurity is a major impediment to having a family, and without babies being born , we are relying on importation of people who have no desire to integrate , go on Welfare for life , or on NDIS, or, in many cases , even to ever learn a little English ! There are few ” nice ” girls . Most are foul mouthed and have gone to bed with a series of males. As for decent young men –where are they ? All seem to be drunks , foul -mouthed, violent , and on drugs. This is because they are the products of the 1960s Sexual Revolution and the breakdown of the Family, quick, easy divorces. Good Manners disappeared. Religion became ” modern ” , was discarded, and , university courses had to be down-graded to allow for every idiot to have a degree. How can we save Australia from this tsunami of bad govt policies which have created a Corrupt and violent society with no morals and no punishments for murder by juveniles ? I don’t know ! I think we have gone , like the UK and Europe, past the point of No Return , unless a miracle happens, and , the “Silly Sheep ” ( Australians ) wake up and rise en masse , and return to Christianity and demand a “Fair Go ” for Aussies.
A working mother has no time to bond properly with their child , or children, or , to pass on experience and proper learning which they do not learn at school ( only Woke indoctrination , even at church schools because of the National Curriculum ). Stupid women have no idea of the horrible ways babies are aborted.
Thankyou George. Excellent article.
Pray “God help Australia”. He’s the Only true lasting answer.
Dear Friends,
This “free fall” of our culture hasn’t happened in a vacuum and the bulk of it has happened on our watch. It is not only for the secular world to be turned around. It is the Church which first has to repent, deeply repent, for its complicity in worldliness and sin. There is so much of our comfortable culture in our Church we cannot tell the different between the world and church, sadly. I believe that the Gospel has to start in the Church, then preached to the culture. As the traditional Africa American spiritual song says”It’s a-me, It’s a-me standing in the need of prayer, not my brother, not my sister, it’s a-me O Lord, Standing in the need of prayer”. We can be encouraged as 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 and on, gives the clear mandate and instruction to for the household of God to repent first, then the land shall be blessed. But I do not want to go back to way we were. I want a genuine heart change for our Lord and Saviour and Holiness amongst His people where we genuinely love Him, serve Him above all.
Yes, yes, and yes.
