Intention

To stir in every believer a compassion for the lost and a boldness to share the gospel — because the harvest is plentiful and the Lord is calling workers.

Scripture

“Jesus continued going around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness.

When he saw the crowds, he felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.’”

– Matthew 9:35–38

Reflection

During the month of May, millions of Christians around the world are praying for the harvest and boldly sharing the gospel. Ordinary believers are carrying an extraordinary message, and God is using them powerfully. No preacher is coming — the whole Church is going!

In Matthew 9:35–38, we see three powerful truths.

1. Jesus was active and went to all the towns (Matthew 9:35). Jesus did not wait for people to come to him — he went to them. He moved. He taught. He preached. He healed.

Our God is active, and he calls us to be active too. Jesus said in Matthew 4:19, “‘Follow me,’ he told them, ‘and I will make you fish for people.’”

When God created the world, he worked with joy. But when he came to save the world, it cost him pain, sacrifice, and the cross. Out of love, Jesus gave his life to rescue humanity.

Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Years ago, he challenged me personally to share the gospel every day — and I obeyed. Every day, I looked for at least one person to talk about Jesus.

As Christians, we are not called to passive faith. We are called to action.

2. Jesus had compassion for people (Matthew 9:36). Jesus did not just see crowds — he saw people. He saw people who were broken, lost, and without direction.

The Bible makes it clear that without Christ, people are lost: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it” (Matthew 7:13).

Does it move your heart that people are walking toward eternity without Jesus?

There was a season in my life when, during prayer, I was overwhelmed with compassion. For 45 minutes, I wept for lost souls. I could feel God’s heart for people.

There is urgency. Every person will spend eternity somewhere, and only Jesus can save.

3. The harvest is plentiful (Matthew 9:37). There are countless people searching for hope, truth, and salvation — but too few believers are willing to speak.

Why are we silent?

If we truly believe that Jesus is God, that he died for our sins, rose again on the third day, and is the only way to heaven, how can we keep this message to ourselves?

If someone you loved were dying of cancer, and you had the cure, would you stay silent? Of course not — you would do everything possible to save them.

The gospel is the cure for the human soul. It is the greatest message on earth, and we are called to share it.

One day, I was on a bus heading to a terminal when a stewardess stood next to me. I started a conversation, and she opened her heart completely. She told me she had watched The Chosen but had never truly heard the gospel. She was searching for God. I shared Jesus with her.

By the time we arrived at the terminal, she was in tears — and she gave her life to Christ. People all around us are searching. They may sit beside us on a bus, work beside us in an office, or live next door. The harvest is everywhere.

You may be the answer to someone’s prayer — but you must be willing to go.

Lord, send out labourers — and send me. I choose to be obedient to your call. Use me for your glory. Give me boldness to share the gospel this month with five people. Lead me by your Holy Spirit, and let my life bear fruit for eternity.
