Canberra Declaration Calls Nation to Pray & Fast for Rain + Webinar Invite
The team at the Canberra Declaration, after much consultation with Christian leaders, feels challenged to call the Nation to Pray & Fast for rain in October.
James Condon, the Chairman of the National Day of Prayer & Fasting, and the Executive Team of the NDOPF are also endorsing this prayer call to break the drought, as are many other Christian leaders, Churches and Christian Ministries all over the nation.
Watch this 3–minute video about the drought:
We invite you to register to join us this coming Thursday night, the 26th of September at 8PM AEST, for a special Revival & Rain Zoom Webinar to celebrate the launch of this historic Prayer Call to break the drought.
This coming Thursday night, you will hear from Jeff Daly, founder of the USA National Day of Repentance, and Chris Broheir, a well-known Christian barrister, on the proposed Freedom of Religion legislation inquiry. (Get your submission in before 2 October 2019). Two other key guests will be Ps Dave Jackson, the founder of Western Care Ministries (see above video), and Ps Jenny Hagger AM, one of Australia’s greatest prayer leaders. Other key leaders will join us as well.
Every state in Australia has encountered some level of drought over the last several years. Some areas of Northern NSW and Southern Queensland, as well as WA, SA and NT, are equal to the driest on record, some say the worst drought ever.
18-month rainfall deficiency for Australia
Some towns are about to run out of water, and some towns have run out of water. Elders Long Range Forecast shows little indication of significant rain over the next 28 days. The Bureau of Meteorology are forecasting a hot dry spring and summer.
In regional drought-affected areas, one farmer a week is committing suicide. The needs at every level in the bush are massive. Now is the time for both prayer and action.
We are offering some Special Download links which will give you resources in the area of prayer & fasting when you register for the Revival & Rain Webinar. So don’t miss out!
This period of unified interdenominational Prayer and Fasting has been inspired by the Catholic Church’s call for Prayer and Fasting for Marriage & Family for the month of October every year for the last three years.
We believe we have an opportunity to build on this record of unified prayer and increase the level of prayer across Australia.
The team at the Canberra Declaration will coordinate daily digital devotions from National Church leaders, including Aboriginal Christian leaders. Register here to receive the daily devotions for the month of Prayer & Fasting for Rain from the 1st – 31st of October 2019.
We would love to see people of faith from the cities unite and actually go to the drought-affected areas to pray in situ and render practical assistance in coordinated effort to ”Bless the Bush”. The Canberra Declaration is partnering with Dave Jackson from Western Air Care Ministries to Bless the Bush.
Hear from Ps Dave Jackson at the Revival & Rain Webinar this coming Thursday.
Australia has a desperate need for RAIN, but we have an even more desperate need for God. We pray that as we get down on our knees to pray for RAIN in October that God will give us the grace of REPENTANCE and the RENEWAL of our love for our Father in Heaven. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
- Pray for Repentance – Father, give us the grace to repent as a nation in Jesus’ Name: “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” (Acts 3:19)
- Pray for Renewal – Lord, we pray for renewal in our hearts, in the church, in the community and in the nation: “And now I pray, let the power of my Lord be great, just as You have spoken… The Lord is long-suffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving the iniquity and transgression (of the nation) … Pardon the iniquity of this people I pray, according to the greatness of Your mercy… Then God said, ‘I have pardoned according to your word’.” (Numbers 14:17-20)

I can’t get one Liberal or National to fight to overturn these anti-free speech laws so that no Australian is ever again subject to this sort of vexatious litigation. If we don’t have free speech, are we really a free nation? How did Australia come to this?
About two years ago, I was watching the SSM ‘survey’ closely and bemoaning the state of our nation. I wondered how we had strayed so far from God’s ideals. In my prayers I would complain about this and be constantly asking God to step in and do something! He kind of did, but not in the way that I might have expected. As I continued to pray and to read the Bible, I felt God directing me to where the real problem was. And it was quite confronting and disturbing to realise that the reason why our country was so far from God had more to do with me that I could’ve imagined. Not only me, but Christians in general. We had become so self-centred, pursuing (as Martyn LLoyd Jones would say), our own goals of peace, prosperity, pleasure, luxury and a good life over a relationship with God. I realise that doesn’t apply to ALL Christians, but many of us have been sucked into that mindset, not even considering how our spiritual indolence affects our families, communities and nation. To sense God challenging me to face up to my responsibility as to the state of the nation was not something I particularly enjoyed, but it resulted in a radical refocussing. I didn’t like the thought that God was allowing my apathy to ripple outwards when I thought I was being ‘salt and light’ and I knew that there had to be big changes.
The more I thought about all this, the more I began to understand that if anyone was to blame for Australia’s moral woes it was His people. God doesn’t require lip service or church attendance, He wants our humility, obedience and reverence – total surrender. Knowing this began a process of seeking God in earnest and asking Him to bring renewal. But I also realised that renewal had to start with me. I believe He has been renewing me, and I am in the place now where I can pray for the renewal (or revival) of all Australian Christians. I am also praying that God will bring an awakening across our nation. I may well be wrong about this, but my sense is that rain, renewal and awakening are all intertwined. I don’t think I have access to some exclusive truth here and I’m not an amateur prophet, but If I could summarise was I believe God is saying it would be this –
“Forget about protesting and complaining about where your country is headed. Seek my face like you never have before. Confess YOUR sin and let me show you where YOU need to repent. Do this, and I’ll not only bring rain, but I’ll release my Spirit in a way that you have never seen or even imagined. There will be physical renewal and spiritual awakening in Australia. Waters in the wilderness, streams in the desert, and the thirsty place will be satisfied. Nothing is too hard for me.”
So today when I heard about your initiative to pray and fast for rain, I was so excited. Not just because it brings Christians together to pray for our physical needs, but because before that you have recognised the need for repentance and renewal and that’s where I truly believe we have to start. Then our prayer and fasting will have power to change the future of this nation and the outcome of history…
So true Bro
I believe we must Pray against the ‘blindness’ over our Nation. The greatest battle our Nation has ever faced is in front of us right now! We must stand for the future of next generation till Jesus comes. ( I am praying that of the 50 unrighteous senators who voted for the abortion bill in QLD to be replaced with righteous leaders instead). 2 Chronicles 7:14.
It is a precious privilege to be a woman and conceive a baby in our womb (through our egg from an ovary and a sperm from a man) joining together to become a tiny baby. Then we have the privilege of firstly carrying that little one in our womb for approximately 9 mths. Then comes giving birth to a baby which is either a boy or a girl. No privilege like it. What an amazing privilege God has given to all men and women He Created.
Abortion has its consequences as being an abomination to God’s creation.
Yes! This is the time… this is the opportunity to Pray and Believe God for Breakthrough in our Nation. God is calling us to Prayer and Fasting as His Children.
The state of the body of Christ is disturbing. Too busy to pray, too self-centred to “do good to all at every opportunity” (Gal 6), and we appear to have lost our first love (Rev 3). We the church need to find genuine repentance, and renewal of relationship with our heavenly Father through Jesus, empowered by His living Spirit!
