The harsh reality of abortion is unthinkable torture and the killing of a human being growing inside their mother’s womb. The procedures used are nothing short of barbaric, with no pain relief for the fetus — most pro-choice advocates would change their stance immediately if they were aware of these practices. Abortion has become a hot political issue, yet many people with strong “pro-choice” views have never truly educated themselves about the actual practices of abortion.

First, second and third-trimester abortion procedures are each barbaric in different ways. First-trimester abortions use a drug to cut off the supply of nutrients to the baby so it dies and another drug expels it from the womb. In the second trimester, the baby is suctioned from the womb with such force that it destroys the child. In the third trimester, they dismember the baby before suctioning, using instruments to remove the body parts of the baby. There is even partial-birth abortion, banned in the USA, which is too evil to describe — yet it has not been banned by law in Australia: it enables easy harvesting of the perfect organs of the child. The Lord and Giver of Life is calling us to go and rescue. He judges the motives of hearts and sees through every excuse — there is a responsibility for every human being to go and rescue, to help those whose lives are threatened.

“Go and rescue the perishing! Be their saviour!
Why would you stand back and watch them stagger to their death?
And why would you say, ‘But it’s none of my business’?
The One Who knows you completely and judges your every motive
is also the keeper of souls — and not just yours!
He sees through your excuses and holds you responsible
for failing to help those whose lives are threatened.”

We join in the prayer of Psalm 51:1 (AMPC) together for our nation: “Have MERCY upon me, O God, according to Your steadfast love; according to the multitude of Your tender mercy and loving-kindness, blot out my transgressions.” We know mercy can only come through the cross of Jesus Christ, and His blood continually cries out mercy (forgiveness) to all who call upon Him at the Throne of Grace.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come to You today fully humbled and repentant for the transgressions of our nation. Lord, blot out our transgressions. As You live in us, we ask for mercy and for the grace to help us to go and rescue — that we be their saviours.

Lord, like Dr Levantino, convict all those who are in any way involved in these barbaric practices to see through Your eyes and refuse to ever do these atrocities again. Lord, thank You for being just and calling to account those who partner with the evil of abortion. You turned Saul, a former murderer, into one of Your Apostles, a messenger of truth and grace. Turn many more to go and rescue the perishing, Father. In Jesus’ powerful redeeming Name, Amen.

Prayer Points

• Today, we humble ourselves and repent for our national transgression and the barbaric way babies are aborted in our nation. We ask for those who support abortion to come to know exactly about the procedures. We ask for a spirit of repentance and a conviction of those performing them.
• We pray for every state and territory of Australia to come together to stand for life and for the church to rise up and “Walk for Life Adelaide” on 11 February and “March for Life” Brisbane — date TBA, Mackay “March for the Babies” October, and for other states to join in and hold rallies or walks in their cities.

These three current Pro-Life Issues before Parliaments:

• Pray that the Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill 2022 be passed speedily in 2023. This Bill will protect babies who are currently, in most states of Australia, being left to die after a failed abortion. This protection for such babies is currently law in New South Wales (2019) and South Australia (2021) as amendments to the state Termination of Pregnancy Acts. This Federal Bill, if passed, will make this legislation National. Pray for protection for the three Federal Senators Alex Antic (Liberal Party), Matthew Canavan (National Party) and Ralph Babet (United Australia Party) who presented this Bill on 30 November 2022.

• On 28 September 2022, the Federal Senate referred an Inquiry into Universal Access to Reproductive Healthcare (abortion) to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs. This enquiry is all about broadening abortion access and entrenching it into federal law, overriding state laws. Pray that the Lord stops this from occurring.

• The passing in South Australia of the Statutes Amendment (Loss of Fetus) Amendment Bill 2022. Presented by MLC Sarah Game (One Nation). This bill would acknowledge the loss of an in-utero baby due to a criminal act, such as assault of the mother or dangerous driving — offences in their own right. This Bill is about justice and recognition of a life lost. Sadly abortion is not recognised as a criminal offence, but this bill will for the first time recognise the personhood of the unborn child.

Pray that abortion will not increase in Australia. The ACT Government has announced it will provide free abortions from 2023. There are also calls for taxpayers to fund abortions nationwide, and for nurses to be allowed to give out abortion pills.
