The Gloves Come Off in the Fight Over Gender Identity
Algerian boxer to sue those who question his female identity.
Algerian boxer Imane Khelif wants the freedom to think he’s a woman, while denying others the freedom to say what they think.
Khelif is all in for gender freedom, while all out to suppress freedom of speech.
Well, sorry, but you can’t have it both ways.
You cannot demand the freedom of a man to identify as a woman in female boxing competitions while, at the same time, demanding that no-one should be allowed to comment.
The XY-Chromosomed One has launched criminal action against people — including Elon Musk and JK Rowling — for “aggravated cyber harassment”.
It’s very unlady-like…
Not Very Sporting
The lawsuit stems from an outcry against Khelif’s participation in women’s boxing at the Paris Olympics.
Khelif was banned from women’s events in 2023 by the International Boxing Association after gender tests revealed the presence of XY chromosomes.
But the International Olympic Committee has scrapped gender tests and prefers to let people compete on the basis of their passport.
In other words, if you say you’re a woman, then you’re a woman.
But if anyone says anything to the contrary, then they are a bully who must be prosecuted.
People telling lies will be awarded gold medals. People speaking truth will be prosecuted. That’s the Olympic spirit!
Khelif’s Paris-based lawyer said yesterday that they would go after everyone who made untoward comments about the boxer, including those who “shared hateful messages under pseudonyms”.
He’s worried about cyberbullying after what his client did to women in the boxing ring?
Oh, the irony of using a cyberbullying lawsuit to bully others into silence so you can continue to punch on against women without criticism.
It’s also madness.
Freedom of speech — which Khelif wants to curtail — has led to the greatest advancements in human progress.
The freedom to identify as a woman has led to what? Men beating up women at the Olympic Games?
You tell me which of the freedoms should be encouraged and which should be curtailed.
Putting His Foot in It
But maybe the lawsuit is an own goal. After all, if a court is to prove that Khelif was unfairly vilified, then there would need to be evidence that Khelif was, in fact, a woman.
Bring on the gender tests that Khelif has been so eager to avoid.
I was going to say that Khelif may have opened a Pandora’s box. But that assumes Khelif has one.
And if you get more upset about that comment than about the physical assault of women as an Olympic Sport, you’re the problem.
For years now, the tender hearts of compassionazis have urged, “Gentle, gentle, we won’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings,” while women’s rights have been further eroded.
Now, we’re giving medals to men who hit women particularly well.
The gloves should be well and truly off in this fight.
Khelif’s lawyer has insisted that:
“Every person has the right to practice sport without discrimination.”
Sure.
But it’s not discrimination to point out that a biological man (as if there is a non-biological man) doesn’t belong in women’s sports. And we should fight to the death those who want to ban us from saying so.
