Our Easygoing ‘You Do You’ Approach is Only Producing More Bearded Ladies

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Do I really need to explain further?

I know you want me to. So here goes…

Dylan Mulvaney’s hairdresser (that’s quite the introduction in itself), Jonathan Van Ness, has “divided the internet” over the dress he wore to the recent Golden Globes.

Why the internet would be divided on Van Ness is beyond me. Wouldn’t every man and his non-binary dog agree that the dress is just plain weird?

Sartorial Statement

Van Ness is a man.

With a beard.

If he were attending a circus, it would make sense.

But he was not at a circus; he was at a Hollywood event, which, come to think of it, is much like a circus except that, at a circus, the bearded ladies know they’re not ladies.

Van Ness

The Golden Globes controversy was not about whether Van Ness should have worn a gown, but rather, it was about whether Van Ness should have worn THAT gown.

The Daily Mail reported:

A majority of fans praised the Queer Eye star, 37, for his bold choice celebrating his style and confidence.

However, some others were less enthusiastic, questioning if a different style of dress would have been more flattering on him.

While nothing says “confidence” like forgetting to remove the five o’clock shadow before donning an evening gown, I’m trying to think of a “different style of dress” that would be more flattering on a man with a beard.

I’m trying to think of ANY style of dress that would help in that regard.

Nope. I’m at a loss.

Anyway, had Trump not won the election, Van Ness would likely have been voted Miss America later this year. Instead, Van Ness will just have to wallow in his self-inflicted victimhood.

Touchy

What amused me, aside from the dress and the beard, of course, was that Van Ness got upset at people critiquing his appearance.

So here’s the thing. Follow if you can…

He wants to be a woman on the red carpet. But he’s upset at people commenting on his dress!

Kill me now before I die from laughing.

Van Ness later put out a video claiming he was the victim of transphobia. Of course.

The bearded attention-seeker in the off-the-shoulder, emerald green gown is the victim, not the billions of women he mocked!

The moral of the story is that normal doesn’t just happen on its own. You have to insist on it.

No society has ever existed without standards, and the kind of ‘you-do-you’, easygoing, non-confrontational approach we have adopted in the West over the past 50 years to bearded ladies has done nothing but produce more bearded ladies.

It’s time to say ‘enough’. Or to point and laugh. I recommend both.
