Trump Proves to Be the Bigger Man
Wong said it was an ‘honour’ to be invited. Well, the honour was all Trump’s.
The Left told us that Donald Trump was a narcissist. They warned us that Donald Trump was rude, boorish and arrogant.
And yet the President-elect has demonstrated grace and generosity that those on the Left can only dream about…
It was revealed that the incoming Trump Administration had invited Kevin Rudd and Penny Wong as official guests to the Presidential inauguration next week.
That’s quite the hand of forgiveness.
Insults
Remember, it was our Ambassador to the US who once described Trump as a “village idiot” who had “trashed” the presidency.
And back in 2021, our Foreign Minister described Trump as a leader who was “prepared to trash alliances and partnerships for personal political interest”.
The invitation from Trump says a great deal more about his graciousness and diplomacy than it does about Rudd and Wong’s standing in the world.
If Rudd and Wong were true to their past statements about Trump, then they would politely decline the invitation.
Boycotting the inauguration would display character and principle. But, of course, it’s impossible to display that which you just don’t have.
And besides, Rudd and Wong would go to the opening of an envelope if it meant some time in the media.
This could be their last junket. And socialists do love a junket.
Astounding
The level of hypocrisy is extraordinary.
Rudd is desperately trying to make friends with Republicans in order to keep his ambassadorial position.
And Wong described the invitation as “an honour”. Well, the honour is all Trump’s!
Of course, that doesn’t mean Trump won’t seat Rudd and Wong in the back where they can eat crow.
Then again, Trump is just as likely to seat them up front. Is there anything more satisfying than making your enemies watch your success from front-row seats?
But what a pity Australia has no-one of substance in our Federal Government to send to such an important ceremony of such a crucial ally.
By the way, if the situation was reversed, do you think the Albanese Government would ever invite Donald Trump to an official occasion?
Of course not.
Once again, Donald J Trump shows himself to be the bigger man.

The well worn quip comes to mind… Its often best to keep your enemies close to you.
And another that is equally sensible… Kill your enemies with kindness
Excellent article, James. Politicians continually fail to remember that the public have very long memories. Well said!
Thanks, James. I hope Rudd + Wong seethe with inward rage watching President Trump’s glory –the defeat of the vile Democrats!
Grace – the unique virtue attributed to no other religion than Christianity.
If I were Trump, I might invite Rudd to my inauguration too – just to get video of his groveling.
And then I’d whisper in his ear, ‘Pack your bags and get out.’
