Asbury Revival Inspires Packed Night of Prayer and Worship Planned for Melbourne
Inspired by the Asbury Revival, an upcoming prayer gathering in Melbourne will provide believers with the chance to go low before the Lord and prepare to share the gospel across Australia.
A prayer gathering hosted by The Global Harvest will take place on Friday, August 8 at Bethany International Church in South Melbourne.
The night was organised as part of a rhythm of worship and intercession across the city, and it happened to coincide with a visit from Zach Meerkreebs, a campus pastor from Asbury University in the United States. Seeing the alignment, the team invited Zach to share briefly at the gathering.
Since then, the response has been overwhelming.
The event is now fully booked, including two overflow rooms, while registrations continue to flow in. Due to high demand, a live online stream has now been opened so that people across the nation can participate.

A Quiet Sermon Before a Global Outpouring
In February 2023, Zach Meerkreebs gave a short message in a student chapel at Asbury University, preaching on Romans 12. He spoke gently but directly — calling students to genuine love, fervent service, and persistent prayer. There was no dramatic altar call — just a humble invitation to stay and seek the Lord.
A few students remained in the chapel after the service. They began to pray.
Over the next hours and days, hundreds joined them. Worship continued non-stop. People began repenting of sin, reading Scripture aloud, reconciling with one another, and surrendering afresh to Jesus. What followed was a 16-day outpouring of 24/7 prayer, worship, and repentance, which came to be known globally as the Asbury Revival.
More than 80,000 people travelled to the small town of Wilmore, Kentucky — but there were no performers or big names. Just ordinary people encountering an extraordinary move of God.
Zach Meerkreebs has since released a book titled Lower: Igniting Spiritual Awakening Through Radical Humility. In it, he shares his own personal journey of surrender, as well as six postures of humility that help prepare the heart for revival: crushing, crucible, hiddenness, surrender, simplicity, and weakness.
The heart of the book is a call to step out of the spotlight and make room for Jesus — to become less so that He might be lifted high.
The message behind Lower will be reflected in the posture of the Melbourne prayer gathering. This is not a night built around platform or performance, but a night to go low.
The Global Harvest: Disciples in the Everyday
The Global Harvest has seen over 2,500 baptisms take place across Australia in the past two years. It’s part of a broader disciple-making movement focused on training everyday believers to share the gospel, baptise others, and start Discovery Bible Study (DBS) groups that multiply.
The movement is not built around events but everyday obedience. It’s a return to the Book of Acts model — simple, Spirit-led, and centred in homes, workplaces, neighbourhoods, and other public venues. The Global Harvest continues to equip believers through discipleship training, leadership development, and tools that fuel multiplication across Australia.
This prayer gathering is part of that rhythm — seeking the Lord together, asking for more labourers, and laying down our lives again for His purposes.
The format of the night will reflect the core message. There will be no one at the centre. The worship team will be positioned to the side. There will be moments of stillness, extended times of prayer, Scripture read aloud. People will be invited to listen to the Holy Spirit and respond in obedience.
Overflow for the Harvest
The cry of the night is not just for refreshing, but for overflow. Our prayer is that, from the presence of God would come the power and boldness to go — to share the gospel, make disciples, baptise new believers, and see communities transformed. We are inspired by the following Scriptures:
“The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest.” — Matthew 9:37–38
“If My people, who are called by My name, humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” — 2 Chronicles 7:14
The main room and two overflows are now full, but you can still be part of this night. Gather a group in your home. Join from your church. Tune in from wherever you are. Create space, pray, and go low.
The live stream is open and free. You just need to register. Register now at: join.theglobalharvest.com/
