Moira Deeming has announced today that she has joined Family First. Now the Parliamentary Leader for the party, she will re-contest her seat for the Western Metropolitan Region electorate at the 2026 Victorian November election.
Melbourne’s Moira Deeming has been fighting the good fight for quite some time. I have chronicled her journey for a full decade now.
Indeed, the first of my 18 articles written about her spoke of her battles within the school system before she got involved in politics. Ten years ago, a Herald Sun article said:
“A Melbourne high school teacher says she would refuse to teach ‘lewd’ material in the Victorian government’s mandatory respectful relationships program to be introduced in all state schools next year. Moira Deeming, a teacher and mother-of-three, said she was shocked by the content and would rather be fired from her job than teach such ‘sleazy, unnecessary drivel’ to her students….”
I commented:
“Well done Moira Deeming — you are a champion and we need more courageous and principled teachers like you. I hope that many others will be emboldened and follow your example in speaking out about the filth and propaganda that is being rammed down the throats of our vulnerable young people.”
Political Turmoil
Since then, she has had a very full and topsy-turvy political career, including with the Victorian Liberal Party.
But in addition to her leftist haters and detractors, the Libs did not treat her much better, basically forcing her out, just like they did to another conservative pro-life and pro-family champ Bernie Finn who had preceded her in the same electorate.
So I have been wondering lately if she would just give up her thankless political life, or become an independent, or something else. I have been praying for her daily, and we know a little while ago there were some suggestions that she might fit in with Pauline Hanson’s One Nation.
Deeming’s Fresh Start
But today it was announced that her new home will be with Lyle Shelton’s Family First Party.
As a News24 article just said:
“Moira Deeming will run for Family First at the November Victorian state election after quitting the Liberal Party. The former Liberal MP revealed on Thursday that she will run for the minor party and serve as its leader at the election.
“‘I am super excited to announce that I’ve joined Family First,’ she wrote on social media. ‘I have long admired their principled stance on a whole range of issues, and I’m very proud to lead the Party into the November election, where I’m running to win my seat in Western Metro. It’s not going to be an easy battle, but there are five seats up for grabs.’”
And Lyle was, of course, with her as this announcement was made. He said this in part in a press release:
“I’ve just finished a press conference in Melbourne and wanted to share this announcement with you right away. I also have a time-sensitive request that is of vital importance. Victorian MP Moira Deeming is joining Family First. This is a landmark moment for every Australian who cares about faith, family, and freedom.
“I’m sure you know Moira’s story. She stood up for parents’ rights. She fought to protect children. She refused to be silent when the political class demanded silence. The Victorian Liberal Party expelled her from the party room after attending a women’s rights rally. The media, and the Liberal Party, tried to destroy her reputation.
“And yet…
“She didn’t flinch.
“She didn’t retreat.
“She kept going.
“That kind of courage is almost extinct in Australian politics.
“But Moira has it in spades.
“And she’s paid for it personally, professionally, and publicly — yet her convictions haven’t moved an inch. Now she’s preparing to contest the November election with Family First!
“The opportunity in front of you and I is extraordinary. A proven, battle-tested advocate for families, standing under a banner that unapologetically represents faith, family, and freedom in the Victorian Parliament.”
How to Support Deeming
Of course, being such a small, struggling party, it will take a fair amount of financial support to see her compete with the big boys – especially with the uni-party. So there is now a fund-raising campaign that we can all help contribute to here.
Why not follow me in praying for her and Lyle on a daily basis, and contribute something to her fund-raiser?
Moira and Lyle are a great fit — politically, morally and spiritually. I have known both superstars for quite a long time now. It would be such a Godsend to see Family First making a major inroad into the barren and dark political landscape that is Victoria.
