Family First Lands Moira Deeming as Victorian Spearhead

Moira Deeming MLC is Family First’s new fighter!

Deeming announced in a press release on Thursday that she will represent the party in the 28 November Victorian election.

Instead of bowing out of politics, Moira defied critics, stating she’s determined to hold her ground.

“I am staying,” the Western Metropolitan Region MP asserted, “and I am asking you to send me back in for another round.”

“No matter who the Government is after this election, Family First can have a positive impact on legislation in Victoria.”

Deeming on Defending Faith, Family and Freedom

Moira also doubled down on her commitment to stopping bad laws and supporting good ones.

“Family First,” she said in the statement, “has been so gracious in the transition with me, and I’m very excited to take this next step.”

As lead candidate for the party she described as principled, Deeming acknowledged that “contesting as a minor party [will be] hard.”

The party change doesn’t change her battleground.

Especially when it comes to defending faith, family and freedom.

Listed in the press release is a commitment to continue fighting for “safeguards for vulnerable children, and small businesses that,” Deeming said, “are getting smashed with taxes and regulations.”

Deeming’s Addition “Delights” Lyle Shelton

Family First boss Lyle Shelton welcomed the news on X, adding a simple “Great to have you on board.”

When addressing journalists with Deeming at his side, Shelton said he was “delighted” by the decision.

“There’s no more courageous politician in Australia than Moira Deeming,” he remarked.

“She’s paid a high price for standing up for common sense values about girls and women’s sex-based rights.”

The sitting Victorian MP, he said, has been endorsed by the Federal Executive.

Deeming also told the media she was pleased to be joining the party, and thanked Shelton for being patient and showing grace during the decision process.

Shelton and Deeming’s professional relationship goes back to when she was a teacher.

Back then, when it came to new laws removing child safeguards, Deeming recounted seeing Shelton as “one of the only men standing up against it.”

“They threw all kinds of grenades at him as well,” Moira recalled.

“He’s stood strong. I have so much respect for that.”

Moira Deeming told The Daily Declaration that, while appreciative of all the party invites, Family First fit philosophically.

“Lyle has been supportive for years,” she explained.

Asked about the decision process, Moira shared that it “took a while to recover after being thrown under the bus by the Liberal Party.”

She remembers being told by her own Liberal supporters that she had to go “for the sake of peace in the party.”

They told her that this was because Deeming haters within the party would “not stop attacking her.”

Deeming on Faith and Politics

Deeming told The Daily Declaration she’s choosing to go where God leads.

Her choice is also influenced by a no-compromise, “trauma-informed dedication to protecting children.”

Now part of this platform, Family First’s backing will allow her to hold fast to core convictions.

This doesn’t mean deploying Christian cliches or being cloistered, Deeming clarified.

“We’re in the world, not of it,” she affirmed, referring to John 17:16.

It means striking the right balance between Church and State; “getting the conversation between faith and politics right.”

“I’m not afraid of arguing my points,” Deeming said, adding that she’s “deeply convicted about holding the corrosive career politicians and their curated narratives accountable.”

This includes cultural work, which “is about persuading people, and meeting them where they are at instead of looking down on them.”

Importantly, the “legislative work has to be fought alongside the cultural work,” Deeming asserted.

For instance, “the far-left never had a mandate to remove child safeguards or sex-based rights in law.”

“They just created the illusion that they did by funnelling taxpayer dollars into their own mouthpieces and making disagreement with what they’d done hate speech.”

For the doubters who think her brand is unelectable, Deeming is realistic. It’s a tough seat to win, yet she’s “determined to stay the course” and let the people decide.

Deeming is not alone.

She joins South Australian and former One Nation MLC Sarah Game, who switched to Family First in June after a stint as an Independent and founding the Fair Go party.

Theologian and cultural commentator Bill Muehlenberg called the news a “great fit, politically, morally and spiritually”.

In a new piece for The Daily Declaration published yesterday, he declared, “I have known both superstars for quite a long time now.”

“It would be such a godsend to see Family First making a major inroad into the barren and dark political landscape that is Victoria.”

Post-politics, Deeming told The Daily Declaration that family comes first.

After this, if she can’t legislate as an elected representative, she’ll fight using hard-won political momentum through the podcasting circuit or a parental rights lobby group.

With the full support of her husband, Andrew, their fresh start brings to Family First a formidable woman who will argue values on true merit and let the public decide.
