Net Zero Flights: No Joke
How lowering emissions will change flights/aviation.
Do you want the good news or the bad news?
The bad news is that your entire family was killed in a plane crash earlier today.
The good news is that the crash was carbon neutral.
If you need (any more) proof that climate change is a dangerous religion, consider this line from Airbus executive vice president of corporate affairs and sustainability, Julie Kitcher.
According to The Australian newspaper, she said,
“ … an aircraft’s green credentials were now almost as important to airlines as safety.”
Wait. What?
I don’t know about you, but I’d take a safe plane over an environmentally friendly plane every day of the week.
Kitcher was talking about how cutting emissions in the fight against climate change would affect the airline industry.
She said electric aircraft were unlikely to be an option in a country like Australia because of the vast distances involved in travel and the fact that most chargers were already being used by Tesla drivers from Sydney’s north shore.
The good news was that Airbus were planning to have its first hydrogen-based aircraft up and flying by 2035. The bad news is that the Hindenburg utilised this environmentally friendly fuel in 1937, and that was when they believed safety was more important than reducing emissions.
Kitcher assured fliers that they would not notice any difference on green energy flights, other than the higher ticket price.
So other than the fact that you can’t afford to fly anymore, you’ll hardly notice any difference whatsoever.
Kitcher should do stand-up comedy at this month’s Melbourne Comedy Festival.
But this is no laughing matter.
Our political leaders are insistent that we face a climate crisis. The future of the planet literally depends upon reducing aviation emissions. We must all make sacrifices if humanity is to survive the climate crisis.
Which is why Obama flew economy on a commercial jet for his recent Australian speaking tour, and why Albo sat up on the back of a Qantas flight to attend a Billy Bragg concert in Brisbane this week.
Nah, they didn’t really. I’m just rehearsing lines for my Melbourne Comedy Festival gig.
Obama took a private jet, and Prime Minister Albanese took the government jet.
When it comes to achieving net zero, always remember… the joke is on you.
