Climate Chicken Littles Are All Aboard Singapore Airlines Flight SQ321
I’m sure you know about the Singapore Airlines plane that dropped suddenly after hitting turbulence on a flight out of London.
Tragically, one passenger died of a heart attack, and dozens more were injured after being flung from their seats.
Well, quicker than a pilot can say, “Fasten your seat belts,” climate catastrophists are using the incident as proof that we need to start eating bugs.
Turbulence, you see, is now caused by climate change.
Next they will tell us that climate change is the reason passengers weren’t wearing seat belts.

The ABC reported:
Climate change is fuelling turbulence on some of our most common flight paths
CNN warned:
Climate change could be about to make flight turbulence a lot worse
And MSN went full Chicken Little:
Severe turbulence: Climate change is making flying more dangerous
The report said:
“Air travellers are likely to face more hazardous turbulence in the coming years due to climate change.”
The article quoted a study from the University of Reading that warns a warming climate will affect jet streams, creating clear air turbulence.
But the article also admits that the Singapore Airlines flight was thought to be affected by a storm.
Doom and Gloom
Nevermind. The ABC story noted:
“As well as increasingly intense jet streams, climate scientists have warned that storms are worsening as well.”
So, if climate change doesn’t get you, climate change will get you.
The ABC said that turbulence over Australia is expected to increase by 50 per cent between now and 2050, or 2080, whichever comes first.
How is that going to affect travellers?
Professor Paul Williams of Reading University said while planes are perfectly safe and that hardly anyone is ever injured in turbulence,
“The seat belt sign will be switched on a lot more.”
Which means that for the majority of the flying public, who keep their seat belt fastened during a flight, climate change won’t affect their travel at all.
- Note: According to the US National Transportation Safety Board, out of millions and millions of flights since 2009, there have been just 185 serious injuries from turbulence.
- Of those 185 injuries, 129 were to flight crew who typically weren’t wearing seat belts.
