Not Knowing, Yet Trusting: Day 21
Intention
To inspire people to understand that while we do not know everything, God knows all things.
Scripture
“The Lord has His way
In the whirlwind and in the storm,
And the clouds are the dust of His feet…
“Who can stand before His indignation?
And who can endure the fierceness of His anger?
His fury is poured out like fire,
And the rocks are thrown down by Him.
“But the Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble;
And He knows those who trust in Him.”
– Nahum 1:3–7
Reflection
Yesterday, a friend asked me what I sensed about the federal election. This is the gist of my reply.
“I am praying for a miracle. I am believing for a miracle. I am expecting a miracle.
“I don’t know what the miracle is. It could be persecution. It could be the favour of God without persecution.
“I don’t know the outcome of this Saturday’s election. Suffice it to say, God is on the throne, and I pray His kingdom come and His will be done in Jesus’ name. Amen!”
I remember attending an all-day prayer and fasting event named “The Call” at the Sydney Homebush Showground more than twenty years ago. This was just before the famous 2004 federal election.
At that stage, it was a close election, and no one could know the outcome. Many Christians, including the coordinators of The Call, Ps Bruce and Ps Cheryl Lindley, had fasted for 40 days, praying for God to move in our nation.
The founder of The Call in the USA, Lou Engle, came from America to support this prayer event. Several thousand Christians gathered to support this historic all-day prayer event. Our National Day of Prayer & Fasting and the subsequent National Day of Prayer were modelled on this event, which lasted for nearly 10 hours without a break.
I can clearly remember walking out of that combined church prayer event. I knew that John Howard would win the election in seven days’ time. He did, much to the surprise of the political elite and the Marxist media.
Today, election day, marks the conclusion of Turn the Tide: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting for our nation during this election. You, I, and many other believers have been earnestly praying and fasting for the turning of the tide against evil in our country.
Many of us have prayed on Zoom nightly. Many faithful prayer warriors participated in Australia’s first overtly public National Day of Repentance in living memory, on Easter Monday, 21 April 2025. Seven other nations joined us in repentance to make it a Global Day of Repentance.
On Tuesday night, I attended the bi-annual Australian Christian Churches Conference, where over 2,000 pastors and leaders prayed that God would have His way in the coming elections. Over the last several weeks, I have heard of many dozens of prayer initiatives. Some were large, while others were small. But they were all raising up prayer for a godly government in Australia.
Amazingly, the largest Zoom prayer meeting in Australian history occurred on Thursday, 1 May 2025, with over 1200 in attendance. Michelle Pearse, the CEO of the ACL, hosted it.
Every major denomination was represented, along with most of the leading prayer networks across the nation and the foremost national Christian values advocacy groups. It was truly history in the making. Watch it below.
After all this prayer and concerted effort to seek God according to 2 Chronicles 7:14, I still do not know what God is going to do in answer to our prayers for the federal election on 3 May 2025.
But I know this: God has a purpose for our nation. As Nahum prophesied,
“The Lord has His way. In the whirlwind and in the storm, And the clouds are the dust of His feet…
But the Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him.”
You see, God is bigger than our challenges. As Job said, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him” (Job 13:15).
Soli Deo Gloria.

Prayer
Father in heaven, You are the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.
Have Your way in this nation. Raise up a godly government in Australia that can again pray the words of our constitution, “Humbly relying on the blessings of Almighty God.”
Have Your way in our hearts. Bring persecution if we really need it, but my prayer is to do without that pain if possible. But not my will, but Yours be done.
Lord, grant us the miracle of revival, repentance, and reformation. We pray that Australia will become the Great Southland of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name.

Thanks Warwick for an important article ..I was at that prayer gathering 2004, and yes great breakthrough occurred in that election, We say Amen to the statement you make that you are expecting a miracle , whatever the Lord does , trusting that whatever may come we also trust that the Lord is good . He knows all things, the big picture. Thank you for referring to Scripture from Nahum. Shalom.
Thank you Warwick and Canberra Declaration for encouraging us with words of wisdom and correction. These devotions have helped sooth my soul, emboldened my words and remind me that my hope is always with The King of the universe.
A very good word.
