Victorian Labor’s “Free” Abortion Pledge Is a Manipulative Bid to Stay in Power
A desperate Victorian Labor Party is peddling taxpayer-funded abortions as free “healthcare”.
As Ben Carroll, the state’s premier, shared in a 15 October X post, “Abortion is healthcare. Your bank account and your postcode shouldn’t be a barrier. We’ll fix that.”
In a broader announcement, the taxpayer-funded termination of an unborn child’s life was being sold as good for the mother’s bank account.
Just over a month before Victorians decide Labor’s electoral fate, the party is facing a One Nation onslaught.
Pollsters DemosAU has One Nation at 20% of the vote, with Labor losing 48-52% (two-party preferred) when matched against the Liberals.
‘Shameless Politics’
Criticising the announcement, James Macpherson said that it was the most shameless political promise he can ever remember.
The Daily Declaration contributor and News24 (formerly Sky News Australia) host quipped, “The only thing Ben Carroll hasn’t promised is to pick expectant mums up in his own car.”
Macpherson said that he recalls when Tony Abbott got slammed for saying abortion should be safe, legal and rare.
To this he added, “Now we have a state premier promising free travel to an abortion clinic, free accommodation when visiting an abortion clinic, and free abortion.”
Macpherson then drew attention to Victorian Labor’s health minister, Ingrid Stitt, selling the cost to taxpayers as a cost-of-living measure.
The video embedded above shows a bumbling Stitt telling an apparent press conference, “It gives cost-of-living relief, which is important.”
“It can be up to $1,000 for a surgical abortion. There are costs associated with medical abortion as well in terms of medication, scans and the life.”
Stitt said, “If we’re re-elected after the election, Labor will make sure that all of those out-of-pocket expenses are covered, whether you’re having an abortion in the public [system] or with participating private providers, up to 16 weeks.”
Labor Playing Politics with Abortion
After asserting that Labor isn’t playing politics with abortion, Stitt went and called on Liberal Party leader, Jess Wilson, to respond.
Stitt — we’re not playing politics with this — added, “I think that women in Victoria have a right to know what Jess Wilson, who is seeking to be the alternative premier of this state, thinks about this policy announcement.”
She said, “I want to also point you to One Nation’s stated objective. They’re on the public record saying they want to wind back abortion care and rights for Victorian women.”
Exposing Stitt’s tactic, Macpherson stated, “Can we be honest? The Victorian Labor government is not doing this because it cares about women. To be clear, they steadfastly refuse to even say what a woman is.
“They certainly can’t be accused of caring about the unborn. There’s now no doubt, as if there ever was, that the Victorian Labor government will do absolutely anything if it helps them cling to power.”
He said, “Far from a sincere attempt to help pregnant women not be pregnant anymore, the promise of free abortions is a shameless attempt to wedge the Liberals and One Nation.
“If the Libs and One Nation oppose free abortion, then Labor will scream they’re anti-women and anti-abortion. But if the Libs and One Nation support free abortion, well, they’ll upset their conservative base.”
Macpherson’s conclusion? This isn’t about women’s health. It’s a political trap using an estimated 23,000 unborn babies as bait.
It’s about using “free” abortions to abort the electability of Labor’s political opponents.
Responding to Jess Wilson calling Labor’s stunt disgusting, Macpherson said, “in my view she didn’t go far enough.”
“I know the subject of abortion makes some people uncomfortable, which is why we use the phrase reproductive rights, as if the life of the mother is the only life involved.
“But isn’t Labor playing politics not only with women, but with the unborn? Are we allowed to say that? I would have thought not saying that is also playing politics.”
The Liberal Party leader has since caved and committed to implementing the same abortion policy.
Family First MP Criticises Abortion Policy
Family First MP Moira Deeming spoke out passionately about the policy, writing on X, “I felt strongly as a mother, a rape victim and Victorian Leader of Family First that I should remind everyone — especially those who’ve found out they’re pregnant and are feeling afraid — that babies can bring healing and joy and purpose and strength to even the darkest of circumstances.”
If you want to keep your baby, but need help, Deeming reminded mums that “there are tens of thousands of us who will help you.”
Asserting Family First’s policy, she said, “For the record, Family First doesn’t support sending women to jail for abortion. But we are pro-family, pro-life, pro-supporting women through unplanned pregnancies, pro-supporting anyone with post-abortion regret, and pro-babies in general!!”
Moira added some family pictures to this, on which she wrote, “Even in the worst of circumstances, having a baby could be the best thing that ever happens to you.
“Scaremongers never tell you how much you’ll fall in love with your baby. Don’t let them make you afraid. Babies are the best.”
Killing the Unborn Is not Healthcare
At least one Pastor publicly called out the policy, then asked people to pray.
Tasmanian Free Presbyterian Zach Dobson said that the policy shows our current cultural situation.
He added that the promise of “free” abortions just to win an election was part of a troubling puzzle of depravity and the most disappointing.
James, Moira and Zach are right.
Conceiving a child is not the same as contracting an STD.
Abortion is as far away from healthcare as the Nazi killer gas-chamber drug Zyklon B is from taking a shower.
Victorian Labor knows this. That’s why they’re doubling down on the euphemisms and manipulative propaganda.
Killing babies in the womb to win votes takes turning the womb into a tomb to a new level in the ongoing genocide.
Killing the unborn is not healthcare, nor is it about the cost of living.
It’s about saving the Victorian Labor Party and its bureaucracy from a brutal electoral culling.
The boat is sinking, so Labor throws the kids overboard to stay afloat.
After this vile stunt, both Victorian Labor and now the Victorian Liberals deserve electoral oblivion.
Abolish abortion.

Thank you, Moira Deeming. A light in the darkness.
Well, I wonder what Labor-voters will make of this extravagant anti-natal promise, to force taxpayers into paying to murder the helpless, innocent baby in the tomb …er, womb.? Will enough of them wake up to the evil which is Labor – and also the Coalition, caving in and getting in line behind Labor?
God help us, please. Let us be governed by a coalition of pro-family parties.

Thankyou Moira ….may your voice be heard loud and clear
Thanks Rod for exposing the shame of The Victoria’s Labor party most recent way to try to win votes in such a degrading why. As you have said, Labor have offered to pay for every abortion, all accomodation and all travel expenses to each mother wanting an abortion and called it health care. That means tax payers will be paying for abortions, often against their will and conscience.
One wonders if a bonus is offered as well (eg the miscarriage compensation money has been known to be used for those women who have an abortion even though miscarriage is caused by tragic circumstances where a baby is lost against the mothers wishes; whereas an abortion is knowingly agreeing to a killing a baby in the womb )
As James Macpherson said the new proposal by Premier Ben Carroll is “it was the most shameless political promise he can ever remember.”
May many be praying through this time of pre election and may God help Victorians have discernment and and a conscience at this vital time. May no votes be illegal and all votes checked for integrity of identity and information. May God shield many innocent babies from an early death.
