Animal rights group PETA is demanding the Brisbane Broncos change their name.

Why?

The football team’s use of a bucking bronco for their mascot apparently promotes rodeos.

I know what you’re thinking. What a bunch of donkeys. Except they’re not horsing around.

Get a load of the statement they trotted out this week…

“PETA is asking the Brisbane Broncos to retire Buck and move away from imagery such as bucking broncos, which glorifies rodeos.”

Rein it in!

PETA: Shovelling Unstable Rubbish

If this country’s biggest animal welfare issue is the use of bronco imagery to promote a rugby team, then Australian animals are doing very, very well.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) may have a colt following, but it will quickly disappear if they persist with unstable rubbish like this.

But the group wasn’t done.

Continuing on their high horse, the group suggested…

“The team could even adopt the name the “Brisbane Boomerangs” after the impressive Aboriginal weapon – a nod to the team’s fostering of Indigenous talent and commitment to equality.”

They can’t be serious. Or are they? That’s the equestrian.

Boomerangs Breaking Bronco Bones

What do the animal rights group imagine boomerangs were used for?

“Boomerangs can kill animals by impacting them with significant force. The impact could result in bone fractures or other severe injuries.”

So if an Australian football team call themselves the Broncos, that’s cruel. But if an Indigenous hunter fractures the bones of a horse with a stick, well, that’s to be lauded.

PETA are making foals of themselves. Talk about a night-mare.

None of this is new, however. The group have been making ridiculous claims for years now.

Back in 2016 the group seriously argued that the Huon Valley council in Tasmania should change the name of Bacon and Egg Bay to something more vegan friendly.

Locals were astonished at the suggestion the name of their local beach might encourage unhealthy diets.

One local told The Guardian…

“Does any normal-thinking person really think that?”

Yay or neigh?

Readers of The Guardian probably do. But I don’t want to saddle you, dear reader, with that.

It’s only a matter of time before PETA demand the St George Illawarra rugby team changes it’s name so as not to promote the slaying of dragons.

They have form.

Charming.

#1 Comparing the Slaughter of Livestock to the Holocaust

In 2003, PETA’s “Holocaust on Your Plate” campaign compared cruelty to farm animals with the death of millions of Jews in concentration camps during World War II.

They set up a traveling exhibition that depicted suffering animals next to pictures of inmates in concentration camps.

Holocaust survivor, Abraham Foxman said the stunt was…

“ … outrageous, offensive and takes chutzpah to new heights.”

I say all of that to say, anyone who believes PETA are a serious organisation hasn’t been paying attention.

They are trolls of the worst kind.
