22,000-Strong Petition Crushes Queensland Labor’s Crackdown on Homeschooling

Labor Party plans to go nuclear on homeschooling in Queensland are now landfill.

22,000 people petitioned the proposed changes, winning a precedent for home education against the State.

In March 2024, then Labor Education Minister Dianne Farmer proposed an increase in regulation behind a smokescreen of positive reform.

Seeing the legislation’s arbitrary language and ambiguity as a red flag, homeschool mum, Amanda Bartle, with the help of Katter MP, Nicolas Dametto, launched a formal objection.

That objection drew thousands of supporters, which grew to over 20,000 within a month. Eight weeks later, the Labor Party backflipped.

Queensland Homeschooling Concern

The homeschool community’s biggest concern was Clause 18.

All the signs pointed to Labor legislating against homeschooling, while saying they were trying to enhance it.

They wanted to force homeschoolers to accept new “guiding principles” packed with diabolical Marxian woke buzzwords.

These new guidelines, Labor said, would “reflect the state education’s commitment to inclusivity and equity” (p.11).

“Gendered language” would also be guillotined. Labor added that its new guidelines would also bring education into “alignment with contemporary practice and approaches to gender and sex.”

In other words, force homeschoolers into alignment with gender-queer critical theory, also known as Cultural Marxism.

For instance, “he” and “her,” would be replaced with “child or young person.”

Rightly alarmed, Queensland’s homeschoolers took issue with the legislation’s vague terminology.

By all appearances, Labor’s bloated – largely leftwing – bureaucracy could use this to bypass parental rights and suffocate the life out of home education.

Subjectively applying terms such as “in the best interests of the child, safety and well-being” was one direct way to achieve that goal.

Another cause for pause was Labor declaring that teaching the Australian Curriculum was the only definition of “high-quality education.”

A supposed fact that the great Australian education advocate, Dr. Kevin Donnelly, has repeatedly revealed to be fake news.

Qld Labor Backs Down on Homeschooling Proposals before Election

Responding to the massive homeschool revolt, Dianne Farmer backed down.

Writing in May 2024 (an election year), Farmer stated that “the announced ‘reforms’ relating to home education regulation would not proceed.”

Perhaps hoping the overreach wouldn’t hurt Labor’s October re-election chances (it probably did), she doubled down, assuring homeschoolers that they would not be abandoned by her government.

Farmer concluded the letter with a spectacular backflip, stating that Qld Labor “respected the right of parents to homeschool their children.”

22,000 Australian homeschoolers had successfully thwarted Queensland Labor’s mini-version of Mao’s Cultural Revolution.

That’s how significant this win is.

New Era for Queensland Homeschooling

Acting in consultation with homeschoolers, Queensland’s fresh Coalition government put its support behind eight recommendations for a new approach to home education.

Implemented in three stages, these recommendations include the renaming of the Queensland Home Education Unit to Queensland Home Education.

Packed into this is the establishment of a parent-centred consultative group.

The State has also agreed to retain its role as a subsidiary to home schooling, not force itself onto families as a substitution for parent-controlled education.

Similar to New South Wales’ extremely successful NESA model – now being destroyed by yet another Labor government – an online portal will help parents with registration.

There, they can engage with a more transparent bureaucracy and check in on expectations about general education outcomes.

This new chapter for homeschooling in Queensland is the calm after the storm.

Welcoming the Coalition’s co-operation, in a recent press release Nick Dametto implied that the win was a game-changer.

“The recent changes introduced under the LNP Government reflect input received from the home education community through the Review process.”

These are “measures that support parents’ ability to choose the type of education that meets their child’s needs.”

The Katter MP then credited mums and dads for fending off Labor’s harsh, wintry, perpetual draconianism:

“It was the persistent voices of parents, carers and home education sector advocates that turned the tide.”

“They really brought this issue to the attention of the whole state.”

This is about “giving parents the tools and support they need,” and taking away any potential for the state to “punish them for making the choice to homeschool.”

Offering perspective, Dametto said, in 2019 there were 3,400 registered homeschoolers in Qld. As of 2025, there are 11,400.

That is a 235% increase in five years.

No wonder the woke, former Labor government wanted to harm homeschooling.

Praise God for the way Dianne Farmer and MP Nick Dameto were abe to move and obtain a petition with many parents signing, that moved the Labor Govt at that crucial time to back down from interferring with Home schooling in Qld. The the new Colation Govt helping rather than hindering this method of schooling.

The failure of the State system is leading to the Exodus from the State system, and there’ll be no turning back. Trying to improve that system now, will be like trying to paint lipstick on a pig, and a lot of us are just not interested to look at that old, fat pig now. Any wholly private decisions will be well made, easily varied, and not subject to bureaucratic approval. The bureaucrats have failed us, and they won’t be trusted now.

it’s the curriculum council .They run it whether it’s implemented in school or at home .People need to be taught how the system really works .They need to understand the basics . Knowledge is power .Attitudes aren’t valid without full knowledge and understanding of the law .That’s why they hide it away so only the wealthy can afford it .

people need to expand their consciousness now more al than ever before ,we are evolving into a entirely un natural environment .Totally .Everywhere is going ,is ,already completely filled with electro magnetic fields radiations forces that God never intended ,that the Bible never discusses .It is another world .It’s going to get dramatically worse Children will be sitting on batteries under their car seats Batteries emitting radiations so toxic it’s absolutely unbelievable that they’re allowed at all ,let alone called environmentally friendly .It’s obnoxious and obscene A travesty a hypocrisy Ann believable evil actually .They’ve warned us for decades now about cell phones yet car batteries are a thousand times more powerful .Mums always put bub on the back seat and that will be where the batteries mostly are going to be .They won’t be safe in my opinion as little tiny infants still developing They will be mutating .
It’s terrifying in my opinion what they know is coming for humanity .
People need to stop and really think .Really think. They don’t They get excited about some thing or other and immerse themselves into it and basically lose the bigger picture trying to be ,often reactionary .We can’t go back .It doesn’t work .We can’t turn back time .We must be prepared and realistic for the future instead if we’re going to survive even and we must be adaptable because we can’t stop the scientific pilgrim’s progress They’re too powerful and patronised by the wealthiest institutions on earth .We need to learn compassion and empathy because our expectations of normal human life are going to be challenged .
