Social Justice is Just the Latest Fashion
Environmentalist virtue-signalling is as changeable as fashion trends, put on when convenient and forgotten when not.
It was the perfect metaphor for woke progressive politics.
Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young woke up in South Australia.
She flew to Canberra aboard a plane belching planet-destroying emissions.
Having landed in Canberra, she put on her virtue — like a dress — and wore it all around town.
All Dressed Up
“End Gas and Coal.” her gown demanded, as she schmoozed with the who’s who of Canberra at the mid-winter ball.
(Having the words “End Gas” emblazoned across her ass did seem like a bit of an own goal, but I digress)
She modelled her virtue for photographers.
She paraded her virtue all night long so that everyone got a look.
It didn’t matter that she was attending a dinner sponsored by fossil fuel companies. Look at how virtuous she is. I mean, you can literally see it!
And everyone did.
With any luck, she thought, her virtue would be on the front page of every newspaper in the country by morning.
Of course, by morning her virtue would be all folded up and shoved into a suitcase. It was entirely unsuitable to wear for her return flight to Adelaide.
And so with her virtue stuffed in a bag so as not to get in the way, she winged her way back to Adelaide aboard a carbon-spewing plane.
Hypocrisy
The progressive left use virtue like a costume that is put on when the need arises.
That other impressive Greens senator, Lidia Thorpe, famously took a selfie in the Qantas Chairman’s lounge.
I know what you’re thinking. How could a climate catastrophist — warning constantly that the planet is about to be destroyed by carbon emissions — boast about being in a frequent flier’s lounge?
But there was no need to question her virtue. You could see it. I mean, she was wearing it.

The “Stolenwealth” T-shirt — calling for acknowledgement of Aboriginal sovereignty and a treaty — demonstrated that she really was a good person, despite looking a little too pleased to be in the frequent flier lounge.
For the progressive left, virtue is a fashion statement.
It’s a gown to be kept for the right occasion, and packed away when inconvenient.
It’s a T-shirt slogan to offset any negative emissions.
It’s put on. Literally.

It’s good for us to laugh and we all know that sarcasm is a socially acceptable way of expressing anger – rage even. Let’s face it , it’s far superior to punching requiring gratification delay.
Careful not to cross that line James. Thanks for making me laugh and for all that you do.
