‘Israelis Bad, Palestinians Good’: Australian Actors Plan Another Petulant Protest
Another pro-Palestinian protest planned for this week highlights the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of Australian leftism.
Thousands of Australian actors and musicians plan to wear keffiyeh scarves during theatre performances this Wednesday in a major escalation of pro-Palestinian protests around the country.
Their plan was announced in an open letter addressed to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and leading Australian arts institutions, and signed by 3,200 creative artists, which called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
“[W]e are making demands of our government and our arts institutions,” the letter reads, among which are an “end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine” and for “the Australian government and Foreign Minister Penny Wong to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire”.
A ceasefire would entail Israel immediately withdrawing all troops from its successful campaign to root out terrorists in Gaza.
The Sydney Theatre Company Scandal
The protest builds on an earlier demonstration by actors Mabel Li and Megan Wilding who used the opening night of The Seagull at the Sydney Theatre Company to play politics by donning keffiyehs during their performance.
Three board members have resigned from the SCT in response, in what The Australian has called “a fortnight of turbulence” for the now-embattled theatre company.
Donors threatened to pull funding from the STC, until the company went into damage-control mode and offered a full public apology in late November.
The antisemitic protests that have continued around Australia — which included crowds chanting “Gas the Jews” on the steps of the Sydney Opera House — rest on a false moral equivalence between the Middle East’s only democracy, and the barbaric terrorists who raped women and murdered babies for sport during the 7 October Hamas invasion of Israel.
‘Jumping on a Trendy Bandwagon’
The planned pro-Palestinian protest was the topic of a panel discussion on Sky News’ The Sunday Showdown, hosted by James Macpherson, who is also a regular at the Daily Declaration.
During his opening monologue, Macpherson noted that “their letter ends with the charming sign-off, ‘From the River to the Sea; Always Was, Always Will Be’” — which, he added, conflates “the Palestinian issue with the Indigenous Australian issue”.
“I had no idea that likening Indigenous Australians to Hamas was such a great election-winning idea until I saw them roll it out in the last week before the Voice campaign,” journalist Joe Hildebrand responded sarcastically.
The panel agreed, highlighting the fact that the indigenous people of the land of Israel are actually the Jews.
“This is just people who are jumping on a trendy bandwagon,” Hildebrand summarised.
“They don’t understand anything that isn’t a really basic black-and-white binary,” he explained. “They see Israel as a neo-colonial power oppressing an indigenous population and they can’t get their head around anything more complex than that.”
“They think the Israelis are the ‘whites’, the Palestinians are the ‘black’, Israelis bad, Palestinians good, that’s all there is to it.”

Maranatha !
Dear Kurt,
I fully support Israel’s right to defend itself and dismantle (for both Israelis AND Palestinians) the reign of terror. (I realize that large numbers of Palestinians support Hamas. In fact reportedly 83% in West bank.) Israel gave away land to the Palestinians, which it actually legally owned under international law and Hamas (not only in Gaza but also the so called West Bank) have squandered the opportunity to do something great with the many hundreds of millions that have flowed in from the USA etc. and instead, used it for it’s on going terror machine. I did note, that recently, important intel was provided to the Israeli intelligence by Palestinians in Gaza, which led to the capture or death (I forget ) of three Hamas commanders. So I want to give credit where credit is due.
