Kirk’s Funeral Reminds the West: It’s Christ or Chaos
On 8 April 1966, Time Magazine issued a cover declaring: “God is dead.”
This morning, 59 years later, the President of the United States told the world that America needs to bring God back.
And I know what you’re thinking: Donald Trump?
The man who tweets like a teenager on Red Bull at 3 a.m.?
The guy who has spent his entire public life being brash, boastful and — let’s be honest — sometimes downright boorish?
Yeah. That guy.
But if you’ve ever cracked open a Bible, you’ll know God has always had a habit of drawing straight lines with crooked sticks.
And I agree, Trump is a pretty crooked stick. He’s practically a pretzel. Then again, aren’t we all?
When even Donald Trump — whose humility is usually as hard to spot as Hunter Biden’s tax returns — admits America is hopeless without a spiritual revival … maybe it’s time to stop scoffing and start paying attention.
If God can speak through Balaam’s donkey, he can probably speak through a New York real estate developer.
Trump told Kirk’s memorial service:
We need not just a political realignment but a spiritual reawakening. And we have to bring back religion to American because without borders, law and order and religion, you don’t have a country anymore. We want religion brought back to America. We want to bring God back into our beautiful USA. We want God back.
It should be obvious to everyone that Trump is right.
The problems facing the West – bloated government, broken families, crime, the insistence that men can have babies — will never be solved by politics alone. Ultimately, they’re spiritual problems.
Politics is downstream from culture. And the culture is downstream from spirituality. And spiritually, we’ve been circling the drain for decades.
All doubt about that was surely removed in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s death – with so many people openly celebrating his death as if murder was a virtue.
I Forgive Him
And yet, into that ugliness walked Charlie Kirk’s widow.
Eleven days after her husband’s murder, Erika Kirk stood at his funeral and provided an alternative worldview. Through tears, she said:
On the cross our Saviour said, ‘Father forgive them for they not know what they do. That man. That young man. I forgive him.
The applause lasted 45 seconds.
Just consider that for a moment.
A standing ovation and applause… for forgiveness.
And she made clear that the forgiveness she was offering wasn’t offered because she was some kind of halo-polishing saint.
I forgive him because it’s what Christ did.
That’s not Oprah. That’s not self-help. That’s the Christian message. The killer didn’t deserve forgiveness. But then again, neither do we.
But if we expect Jesus to forgive our mountain of sins, maybe we need to forgive the molehill of wrongs others do to us.
The choice is simple: Christ or chaos.
For sixty years, we’ve chosen chaos. How’s that working out?
Seeking Christ
And then there was Elon Musk. Not exactly the poster child for Sunday school, but even he couldn’t escape the gravity of the moment.
Speaking at the memorial, he said of Charlie Kirk’s death:
“He was killed because his words were making a difference.
He was showing us the light and he was killed by the dark.”
Then Elon Musk started tweeting the Bible. He posted this line from the Lord’s Prayer to social media:
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
So you’ve got a crass, rude leader of the Free World saying: we need God.
And you’ve got Elon Musk — a man who builds rockets, electric cars, and AI robots — suddenly admitting his billions won’t cut it. He is in just as much need of mercy as Charlie Kirk’s killer and, I might add, as you and I.
Trump joked that the message of forgiveness was too hard:
That’s where I disagree with Charlie. I hate my opponent. And I don’t want the best for them. I’m sorry. I am sorry Erika.
There’s a very flawed individual admitting publicly just how flawed he is… so flawed he doesn’t even know if he can live up to the Christian message — all the more reason to reach out to God.
Maybe there’s hope for Donald Trump.
And for all the Trump haters… hey, if God can soften even the heart of Donald Trump… maybe there’s hope after all.
So here we are, almost six decades after Time Magazine declared God dead.
Now, the widow of a slain man is applauded for forgiving, the leader of the free world is acknowledging the need for God, and the world’s richest atheist-turned-God-seeker is tweeting the Lord’s Prayer.
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us

The most remarkable thing happened in America last night. We saw what Charlie Kirk prayed for his whole life: not revolution, but revival.
Maybe — just maybe — Time Magazine got it wrong. Maybe God isn’t dead. Maybe He’s just getting started.

If you had any doubts about President Trump, please watch his full speech to the UN -hypocritical organization that it is! He said that Christianity is needed and that the green movement is wrong!
Great Job I agree Revival on the way and it is unstoppable.
This article beautifully highlights a potential spiritual awakening in America. The messages of forgiveness and the need for God from various figures are inspiring and give hope for a positive change. It’s a powerful reminder that spirituality can guide us toward better solutions for our problems.

Who can tell how many more heralds and “trumpets” God will raise up in this generation! It seems that as culture turns its back on God and we can see it spinning out of control, God is still at work, and He will raise up His heralds in this day! As the old song says, “Soldiers of Christ arise, and put your armour on!” and “Onward Christian Soldiers marching as to war!” The Apostle Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6: 10-19, to put on our spiritual armour, so that we can fight the “evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” (NLT). We can see the darkness rising, but, hallelujah, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, whose Name is Faithful and True, has won the victory, and He sends us out into a harvest field that is ripe for harvest, to bring the harvest into His Kingdom! Hallelujah!
