The US-based Christian band for KING + COUNTRY will return home next week for their much-anticipated “Homecoming Tour” — coinciding with the release in Australia of their brand new film, Unsung Hero.

It has been five years since the internationally acclaimed pop duo Joel and Luke Smallbone toured Down Under.

The four-time Grammy®-award-winning pair are scheduled to visit both New Zealand and Australia over the three-week trip beginning in mid-May, performing numbers from their fifth studio album — What Are We Waiting For? — as well as a select few from their recently released inspired-by album Unsung Hero.

Their first stop in Australia will be on 20 May in Perth for a performance in the RAC Arena. Evening performances will follow in Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Newcastle, with the tour culminating with a performance in the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on 2 June.

Based on Ticketek seating availability, all Australian concerts have enjoyed strong ticket sales.

In an announcement this week, for KING + COUNTRY revealed that they will be joined in Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle and Brisbane by the winner of last year’s The Voice competition — homegrown Aussie talent, Tarryn Stokes.

The Homecoming Tour is set to coincide with the release in theatres of the for KING + COUNTRY biopic feature film Unsung Hero, which has performed well in US theatres since its release in late April.

Family Story

Unsung Hero recounts the story of the Smallbones’ migration from Australia to the United States in the early 1990s — and their many struggles along the way. It is directed by Joel Smallbone, who also plays the role of his father, David Smallbone.

Speaking of their inspiration for the film, Joel and Luke wrote via social media:

“It dawned on us about 4 years ago that this story of immigrating from Australia to America & all the adventures & challenges we’ve walked through in between was a story that needed to be told.”

The film is slated for Australian release on 30 May. The film is being distributed in Australia and New Zealand by Crossroad Distributors.

Unsung Hero grossed USD$7.7million on its opening weekend, from a USD$6million budget — finishing second overall in America. It has gone on to gross USD$17.3million since its release in the USA.

The film achieved a rare A+ Cinema Score (the highest rating available) and audiences polled by PostTrak offered a 96 per cent overall positive rating, with 90 per cent saying they would definitely recommend it.
