A Cry for Mercy: Day 10
Intention
To pray for God’s mercy over Australia and that He would give us what we don’t deserve: a fresh outpouring of God’s Spirit, leaders who truly honour God, and a turning of the tide towards Him.
Scripture
“Lord, I have heard of your fame;
I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord.
Repeat them in our day,
in our time make them known;
in wrath remember mercy.”
– Habakkuk 3:2
Reflection
Australia is at a pivotal moment. As the 2025 federal election approaches, we face a crucial choice. This decision involves more than just policies and politicians; it concerns our spiritual direction. Will we drift further away from God and His principles of truth, righteousness, and justice, or will we choose to repent and change our course?
The prophet Habakkuk cried out to God during a time of moral turmoil and national uncertainty. His heartfelt plea to God – “In wrath remember mercy” – speaks to our current situation.
Sadly, we are witnessing the consequences of deviating from God’s design. The value of life is disregarded, marriage is redefined, parental rights are challenged, and truth is often perceived as relative. Nevertheless, we hold to the truth that our God is long-suffering and merciful.
We must not put our hope in Parliament or opinion polls to bring about change. Instead, as a nation, we must turn our hearts to the Lord.
Like Habakkuk, we should recognise His incredible works in history. God has saved nations, humbled rulers, and awakened His people many times in the past. We must humbly ask Him to do it once more.
Mercy means not receiving what we truly deserve. The heart of the Gospel is that God took the wrath meant for us and placed it on His only Son, thus allowing us to receive the mercy we could never earn. If God has been so merciful to us personally through Christ, can He not also extend that mercy to our whole nation?
The prophet Isaiah encourages us:
“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.” (Isaiah 55:6–7)
Now is the time for heartfelt prayer, for the Church to rise with courage and compassion. We must repent for our land and pray for leaders who truly honour God, embrace righteousness, and care for the vulnerable.
Let’s ask for a fresh outpouring of God’s Spirit to awaken our hearts and revive our souls.

Prayer
O Lord, we have heard of Your fame; we stand in awe of Your deeds. Revive them in our day!
In the midst of moral confusion and political upheaval, remember mercy (Habakkuk 3:2). Forgive us for turning from Your ways. Have compassion for our nation.
Grant us leaders who fear Your name and uphold what is good, true, and just. Please turn the tide in Australia, Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.
